Janelle Monáe comes out as nonbinary

I suppose we have known for some time, but now it is official, the talented music maker and actor Janelle Monáe has told the world that they are nonbinary.

This was on the April 20 episode of “Red Table Talk” (via NBC News), where Monáe said:

“I’m nonbinary, so I just don’t see myself as a woman, solely. I feel all of my energy. I feel like God is so much bigger than the  ‘he’ or the  ‘she.’  And if I am from God, I am everything. I am everything. But I will always, always stand with women. I will always stand with Black women. But I just see everything that I am. Beyond the binary.”

Thank you to the brave SCOTUS clerk or staffer that probably committed career suicide to leak the opinion overturning Roe v. Wade when they knew the whole country would be glued to the internet looking for Met Gala looks.

As we watch elite rich people flaunt their wealth, remember that reproductive rights are being chipped away more and more everyday. While abortion remains legal nationwide for two more months, you are witnessing a direct attack on folks who can get pregnant, and specifically on Black, Latines, Asian and Indigenous folks.

And remember that it doesn't stop here. The implications are extreme and next on the list are Lawrence v. Texas (case that legalized sodomy) and Obergefell v. Hodges (case that legalized same-sex marriage). The draft opinion essentially refers to these as phony rights. People are going to die on a large scale because of this.

Need everyone to understand that:

1) Supreme Court draft opinions do not leak. Ever. It is unknown and unprecedented. It just does not happen.

2) Supreme Court clerks are generally right-out-of-law-school graduates and if whoever did this gets caught they will never be allowed to practice law. No state bar is ever going to take them. Their legal career is done for. This person risked their entire future.

I hope the court can’t prove anything. May we never know their name.

Not to be rude, but I understand where that agent was coming from though... I don't think a main character who uses them/they pronouns would be a very sellable book. I can't imagine it would have that big of an audience. I'd suggest switching to normal pronouns if you want it to do well.

oh

ok. well, I'm not changing their pronouns? And I have an agent who has accepted my manuscript. As for not doing well, I think there's a bigger audience for nonbinary YA fantasy stories than you would think.

Little things I learned about America from the Will Smith thing:

  • Americans aren’t allowed to swear on live TV (can’t imagine telling adults they can’t swear lol)
  • Simple repercussions are considered “assault” in America??
  • You can get in trouble for smacking a dickhead in America even though it was something they 100% earned (sued? Arrested? PRISON TIME?!?! Mate it’s not even a crime elsewhere, it’s literally just considered a consequence)
  • A lot of Americans are very dramatic about how serious a slap is (“he could have died?!?!?” “Omg vIoLeNcE!!”)

chris rock made a career out of humiliating Black women for white entertainment. his most well known joke is “i love Black people but i hate n*ggers”, which many racists quote to justify their racial abuse and decide which Black people “deserve” their “respect”.

chris sat still and giggled while two racist white comedians insulted the bodies of Black sex workers and threw around the n-word in front of him, until JERRY SEINFELD of all caucasians called them out and expressed disapproval of the racist banter. this is not the first time he’s disrespected Jada either, a Black woman who has made it clear she is struggling with alopecia and hurting over hair loss. his documentary on Good Hair was more like a mockumentary as it did nothing to address the discrimination Black women face and degradation from men that have resulted in the insecurities over hair. instead he made our pain seem trivial.

will should have hit his ass HARDER
