saw north posting about batman: creature of the night, found out it takes place in boston, and was promptly blindsided by the hilarity of an au where batman takes place in boston (which creature of the night isn't, exactly, so i need to imagine)

idk how many of my followers used to follow hallie before she deleted but she's spoken to me from the afterlife and is very excited to hear about boston batman getting featured on the MA gimmick blog
hm hot take time. i obviously like dick to be written as competent and an amazing fighter and capable of doing So Much because he is, but there is also something i find compelling about his sort of niche power/gift being his leadership and how everyone trusts him. like yeah he shouldn’t look like he CAN’T fight his own battles but it can be fun when he’s put in a difficult situation and his solution is “i know a guy for that.” because he Does know a guy for everything. he has like tens of people with supernatural abilities who will come help him at the drop of a hat because he is deeply loved and respected and trusted by the whole community. and that makes a fun contrast to batman who always has a plan but it’s always about what he can do alone.
#thats my long winded way of saying i just read nw 110 and i kinda liked when the iceberg lounge guys were like#dont come in or we’ll shoot you#and he was like :) i have a superman for that#idk its fun#like he could do many things but he doesn’t have to bc he has So Many Friends to lead and coordinate#i still obv dont like how tt portrays all this but i think done a little differently it can be good

also sorry ill shut up about this in a minute but — writing from jason’s perspective about dick (in post-crisis canon) is fun because like…….. dick is a very very intimidating person. often not outwardly! he’s generally pretty easy going, he’s very good at talking to people, putting people at ease, etc
but if we’re talking soft + hard power, dick outstrips jason in about every metric like 10-1. in non violent interactions with dick, jason has everything to lose — he might have to put himself at dick’s mercy to get what he wants. it’s not like an oft discussed point in canon but think about the fire power jason has in gotham vs what dick is packing (haha). literally coughing baby vs hydrogen bomb. one guys desert eagle vs the full concentrated power of the sun
once jason would have been able to rely on dick’s loyalty no matter what, the same way that tim and babs and damian and cass and steph and the titans do. but now he’s lost that privilege. he’s on the other side of the fence, second guessing everything dick does as an act to put him at easy before striking. is dick being genuinely friendly or playing 5D chess? probably both if we’re being honest
#dicks love is the highest privilege and to lose (or feel like you have lost) that privilege is earth shattering <3#he loves you he loves you not if he stopped loving you he could destroy you physically socially mentally emotionally spiritually#so he must still love you……. or he’s destroying you already and you don’t even know#hmhmhmmmm something like that
