I’m just going to be a terrible person and craft the saddest theory ever:

After Reid gets out jail, the team hunts for Scratch. Reid isn’t allowed to go back to work, but he still goes out on his own to work the case. Reid finds Scratch, but it’s a trap, and Reid is outnumbered. He’s about to get killed by Scratch, when the team bursts in, and Scratch shoots Luke who came through the door first. One of the team members tackles Scratch down, but Luke is on the ground. Spencer runs to him first. Luke is pale, losing lots of blood. Spencer squeezes his hand and says, “Luke please stay with me.” Luke is barely aware of his surroundings and he keeps muttering, “Spencer…”, Reid is trying his best to stop the blood, applying pressure to his wound. Reid is crying, and then they show a parallel flashback sequence over and over again to Maeve getting shot, and back to Luke on the ground, cold and on his way to death. While the flashback sequence ensues, Reid whispers, “No no, not again please.” Reid continues to squeeze Luke’s hand, but after a few minutes, just before the medics arrive, the grip on Reid’s hand becomes loose, until finally Luke’s hand slips away from Reid’s completely. Reid’s heart stops. He starts shaking Luke and he’s saying, “Please no stay with me, please.” 

Reid collapses on Luke’s chest crying, while the medics are telling Reid he needs to stay back. The ambulance car rushes Luke to the hospital, and the team is right behind them in their SUVs. Luke is taken to trauma surgery. The team waits. A doctor delivers the news, “not even a miracle could have saved him.” At this point, Spencer breaks down, he collapses on the hospital floor and the team is rushing to calm him down. Flash forward a couple months, we see a scene of a clearly disheveled Reid. He’s meeting with Prentiss. He turns in his badge and gun, “Luke died because of my stupid decisions.” Emily had tried for months to reason with him, but it didn’t work. He kept blaming himself. “I don’t deserve to be in the FBI.” Reid says as he walks out, Emily understands his decision but she’s distraught, “Spencer, I’m so sorry.” Reid turns around and only gives her a slight nod before walking out. They cut to a scene of Reid in Luke’s apartment. Roxy senses Reid is in pain and cuddles him. Reid holds Roxy close, another flashback paralel of Reid holding Maeve’s Narrative of John Smith. Reid has flashbacks to the first day he ever met Luke, how he always listened to his rambles, how he always protected him. He sobs even harder. He thinks about how every person in his life who’s gone now: Maeve, Gideon, Blake, and now Luke. Reid cries so hard he falls asleep, with Roxy never leaving his side.

Fuck this started as a theory and I got way too deep and made an almost fic (it isn’t supposed to be a fic it’s just a collection of thoughts I guess that got way too out of hand.

@dontshootmespence You said you wanted me to tag you about Luke dying in Reid’s arms whenever I wrote something on it, this isn’t really a story lol but it’ll probably make you cry.
