I was going to evaluate which of the ot3 had what. but then I realized they each had all three

parker- competent (notoriously best thief in the world), confident (doesn't care what anyone else thinks, she knows she's the best), and character (autism creature with a heart of gold. orphan turned thief. learning to like things, become a better person and understand people better)

hardison- competent (probably best hacker in the world), confident (sometimes a little too ballsy, but he's usually warranted so we let it pass), character (that's literally all he is. geeky black foster kid who loves his nana, is a family man, and loves his partners)

eliot- competent (best hitter out there. literally good at everything he does which would be annoying as a trope if he wasn't so put-upon every time he has to do something), confidence (absolutely), character (outdated sad boi hitman man trope but also loves family, respects women, and mentally adopts every child he sees)

Leverage S01E09 The Stork Job.

this this this this this! there are two parts of this that I really adore

  1. this is the first time that parker chooses to do the right thing on her own (not to say that she hasn't done the 'right thing' before, but this is the first time that she goes out of her way to do it even if that means she has to do it alone, because the others told her not to engage). this is SO important as early character development and starts the series-wide journey of her "wanting to do the right thing" like she says in the long way down job. parker was an outsider for most of her life before meeting the team. her foster families didn't care about her and archie treated her horribly- like something capable of impressive and extraordinary things but not a person (let alone a child). now she has a team that have expressed that they care for her, even if they don't always understand her. they have shared interests for using their crime for good and giving comeuppance to bad people. but now those people are telling her not to engage, that they did the best they could. but that's not good enough, not for parker. the right thing, the best thing to do it go back and save those kids. and she is willing to do that, the right thing, even if she doesn't have any support and has to do it alone (she's used to it. she's been doing things alone her whole life)
  2. except, here's the thing- she's not alone. not this time and never again. the pure relief in parker's eyes when she sees sophie, which means nate and eliot and hardison can't be too far behind. they didn't leave her (she left them?). they came back for her. they aren't letting her do it alone. if she says it's the right thing, they will follow. she will learn over the years that that's what family means. that's what family does. because that's what they are, at the end of the day. even though it's new and fragile in this episode, that's what they have always been hurtling towards. inevitablly. family.

It makes no sense logistically, but I think that Parker Leverage and Jim Our Flag Means Death should be friends. They’d have so much to say about knives. They both had traumatic backstories that made it difficult to form bonds with others but found family and happiness anyway. The Leverage crew are already sort of pirate-y. Jim would love tasers.

to us they're hitter, hacker, thief, but to the brewpub employees its: the boss, his girlfriend, and his head chef

Imagine applying for a position in the kitchen and the head chef is like pair a salad and this triple Belgium but also are you willing to put marshmallows and glitter on this spaghetti because you know Parker and everyone just shrugs knowingly while you are like what's a Parker

your boss is a suave friendly funny guy and for the first time you actually enjoy your employer. you get paid well (WAY more than minimum wage), as many sick days as you need, generous vacation days, excellent benefits, childcare support, the list goes on. by far best workplace you've ever worked at. randomly comes into the kitchen at least twice a month with a new food gadget that drives the head chef INSANE. hosts local D&D nights for folks in the neighborhood- one for adults and one for youth. make sure the brewpub hosts the portland pride afterparty every year and openly dotes on his gf. seems a bit fruity, possibly having something homoerotic w the head chef

his girlfriend? super weird but not in a bad way. shimmies up into the rafters for fun at random times, always keeps cereal boxes behind the bar for easy access (ONLY for her, but if a staff member brings in a child she will probably share). the reason why they were still finding confetti and glitter in the restaurant five (5) months after pride ended. either doesn't want to be touched whatsoever or clings to the boss (and surprisingly, the head chef...)

the head chef? thank god you just wait tables, bc yeah no one says he's mean in the kitchen but his face, posture, etc just seem intimidating. you hear he's wickedly good with knives and makes some weird references, but you also see him making funfetti waffles from SCRATCH (not on the menu) with chocolate syrup for the boss' girlfriend. legit made a recipe for edible glitter for her. he rolls his eyes and complains but even you can tell it's preformative. the blonde can poke him even when he's annoyed and he still just lets her (even calms down!). you once came in early and walked into the kitchen to see her hanging off his back while he was mixing cookie dough. you backed out slowly (they noticed you, just gave you the grace to not be embarrassed). your boss brings in stupid food doohickes and chef acts mad but you can tell it's more fond than anything. wore a bi pride pin last june which makes you wonder...

We all know Eliot doesn't like guns, but he actually gets pretty excited when Hardison shows off his stigmata paintball gun.

He hates deadly force, but I firmly believe that's a man who won't hesitate to absolutely destroy you in a paintball or laser tag arena.

OOPS I did it.

Disclaimer: I have never personally played paintball so this is all based on the general context i could find on google in under ten minutes. anyhoo blurb under the cut for anyone interested.

hardison realizes this in some convoluted way after one of their cons and he goes out of his way to schedule occasional 'team bonding exercises' at local laser tag arenas. it has the dual benefit of the team having fun but also letting eliot slowly associate good aim of 'weapons' with something other than hurting and killing

over the years they visit some of the best arenas all over the world. wherever they go they almost always establish the business high scores and sometimes if there are screens where people can watch, literal crowds gather at the game center as they hear just how intense the game is getting (but all of them are still laughing?)

even after nate and sophie leave, they still go. team bonding nights turn into date nights and the loser has to do the dishes for a week. (parker and hardison have gotten exponentially better over time and it's often a tossup of who is going to perform better between them. eliot usually ends up doing the dishes anyway because he's a gentleman and a softie like that)

breanna joins the team and is THRILLED to finally be involved in Team Laser Tag Nights. she has been practicing and preparing for this her whole life. to the surprise of everyone, she scores the closest to eliot (harry scores the lowest, to no one's surprise). there is a moment where sophie desitates to pick up the hardware as she is remembering all the times she did this as a team with them and nate, but still ends up playing and has a great time

the hot potato job is underrated because what do you mean sophie mimics eliot's voice so well that eliot literally cannot speak in his natural tone??

sophie gradually deepening her voice and even sneaking in a bit of a southern accent at some points was already funny, but then eliot comes in as her accountant and is forced to just,, change his voice. because she stole it. underrated comedy GOLD
