13 years ago, the first ever “eddsworld kid” sent a picture of himself drawn in the style of Eddsworld over to a young Edd Gould. “You’ve just copied me”, the boy was told. Without skipping a beat he added a monobrow and presented Edd with the slightly altered design. “That’s a bit better”, Edd said.
Today I’ll be overseeing the release of The End (Part 2), the grand finale of Eddsworld: Legacy, before signing out of the Eddsworld account for the very last time. It’s been a privilege to keep Edd’s dream alive for the past four years and I can only hope that he’d approve of what we’ve done. Then again, knowing Edd, he’d probably just sigh and point out all the continuity errors, ha.
The world doesn’t need another pity-piece by an overpaid man-child so I’m gonna try and keep this post as upbeat as possible. That said, as of March 17th I will no longer have any involvement with Eddsworld and I’d like the chance to explain why.
When Edd passed away I brazenly accepted the title of showrunner in, what I now realise, was an act of sheer denial over his departure. I never planned for a life without Edd. Hell, I grew up believing that we were going to create cartoons together for the rest of our lives. When he died, so did that dream and most of what I considered my “purpose” in life. I need to find that purpose again.
While the fundraiser brought in a little over £50,000, it cost more than twice as much to get everything finished. That money came from me. Now that’s not a complaint, but it’s one of the reasons why I just can’t keep doing this. Another reason is that my obsession over “what Edd would do” has damn-near pushed out every other memory I had of him. I can barely remember my friend anymore.
I also want you to know that I never actually made any promises to Edd; we never planned anything. We’d joked about ways to keep the show going if the cancer were to “win” but… There was never a serious discussion. No last will and testament. Just something he told his mother and a promise I made to her and you to “produce another year of Eddsworld”. That was in 2012.
Knowing all this, I hope that you can understand why I can’t stay with the show any longer. Not as a writer, a director, or a voice actor. I’m creatively, emotionally, and financially exhausted. I need to start grieving my friend. Edd’s family will be taking over from now on and I wish them the best of luck.

I agree with you @thetomska I am sad but I will accept this agreement. This may be screwed up but ever since I was a little kid I saw edds vids they made my heart fill with joy and my dream was to see you and edd but when he died my dream crashed on the ground hard...I was heart broken....but I moved on. Eddsworld will keep on spin in my head...my memories will keep playing..I will never forgot my mom (my mom died on Jan. 11.16)..even tho I am heart broken by this "agreement" you are donig....as a friend to you....I will accept this...and I will be DETERMINED to move on..thank you tom...for everything... This. It’s painful to see other artists be legitimately terrified of posting their art or their character interpretations because of how aggressive the fandom gatekeepers are.
