richard nixon would have been a swiftie and so would ronald reagan
on the one hand, she is this unapologetically WASP and unapologetically capitalist entity that nixon and reagan were not only in admiration of - at least, they admired such traits when they still roamed this land - but strove to make the united states. it's easy to see her in the mind's eye, in the 1980s, an icon that's conservative but dare not say so for fear of alienating her audience but doesn't argue when someone bashes feminists, despite being this image of a "liberated" woman, of being single and doing world tours and being a millionaire, billionaire. she would still have a meathead football boyfriend because some things just do not change within american culture. multiple photos of her hanging out with ron and nancy, at white house luncheons, essentially endorsing but not endorsing him, his politics, his worldview. it's all posturing with her, just like it is now. hell, maybe her birthday becomes a minor holiday in the reagan administration, who knows. but taylor swift would have been so at home with all of that, you know?
on the other hand it's very funny to imagine spotting richard nixon with a taylor swift vinyl and how you can hear him talk about the eras tour on watergate tapes as the staffers get increasingly exasperated. rest in peace nixon you would have LOVED "look what you made me do"
