“I haven’t actually read a whole lot of Native American mythology, but the bits and pieces I have read have been intriguing. Celtic I like a lot, as the pantheon is similar to some, but so very different in so many ways.” And the Celtic legends had the stories about the fae, which Izzy has been finding herself reading more about. It hadn’t given her much insight into her less human parentage, but knowing about the different types of fae and their characteristics, as well as the things to be careful of, couldn’t hurt things.

She grinned at the other girl’s surprise. Most people didn’t see how a violet haired woman that could most likely be categorized as a manic pixie dream girl spent any amount of time reading anything other than trite and shallow things, but that was where they would be wrong.

“Sort of,” she replied to Skye’s question. “Less of an engineer and more of a designer and creator. I do custom vehicle mods, and sometimes the things people want you can’t find just off the shelf somewhere. So, I figure out what parts exactly will be needed and then figure out exactly how to make it and fit it to the vehicle I’m working on.” Giving out her full name felt somehow strange, but it wasn’t like people couldn’t use the amazing power of the internet to find her. “The last name’s O’Shaughnessy.” She grinned, flashing Skye a quick wink. “Like I said…. mouthful.”

Skye nodded. “The Native American mythology is fairly interesting. I like their stories and how they view the world and everything that lives in it.” She added sheepishly. The Celts she loved because of the information that it had about the Fae. Even if she had to take a grain of salt with the stories because of when it was written down. Bias and human error and all of that.

She could understand the concept of what Izzy was talking about. It made sense. It sounded a lot like what she would do if she was enchanting something. Only the other girl did it with cars. So she merely nodded again. Then she raised an eyebrow, mentally pronouncing the last name. “I guess by human standards, it would be pretty hard to pronounce. Definitely a mouthful by human standards.” The way that she said human held all of the disdain and contempt she felt for them, and that half of her parentage. “Still, at least it’s not something totally outrageous like some people name their children.”

A breeze blew by and Skye paused, tilting her head almost as if she was listening to it, blue eyes flicking up to the sky for a brief moment where lazy, puffy white clouds drifted by. “Storms coming.” She murmured before looking at the other. “Want to stay outside or move inside?”

If your family doesn’t like you the way you are, screw ‘em.

“Oooo…mythology is fascinating! It’s really interesting to read through the different stories from various parts of the world and see how they all interconnect or overlap. I’ve read through all sorts of mythologies. The standard Greek and Roman, naturally, Norse, some Celtic, a bit of African here and there, some Egyptian…. “ She paused, thinking for a moment, before nodding once and grinning widely. “Yup, that about covers it. I guess when you think about it, it’s pretty much the same old stuff that most people have read. I think what I find interesting, is that most cultures have a creation story as well as an end of the world story.” 

Depending on how one looked at it, drawing was a part of a lot of magic. Not that the average person would know that. Her mouth opened to ask a question, then closed again as the realization that what she’d been about to ask would probably be considered a little too invasive. Especially since they’d only sort of kind of just met. 

“I draw a lot, too. Though, mine have nothing to do with magic. I come up with ideas…. then make those ideas a reality.” Izzy grinned, her expression not betraying any hint of disbelief or skepticism by the other girl’s words. “I go by Izzy. My full name’s a mouthful, so I try to make it less tedious for all involved.” 

Skye blinked, then blinked again in surprise. That wasn’t the answer she’d been expecting. Most people scoffed and rolled their eyes. Or they would humor her by saying that it was interesting, but not meaning it. “Greek and Roman are the most well known. But I like Norse and Egyptian mythology with Celtic and Native American thrown in there. It is interesting that they all have a creation and ending story. Most creation stories involve water.” She wasn’t too sure about the recurring themes in end of the world stories though.

Like an engineer?” Skye asked with a frown. She could do that with her drawing too, but, again, they were all based in magic. “What’s your full name?” Now that Izzy had said that her full name was a mouthful, Skye wanted to know. She figured it couldn’t be as difficult as some Fae, or nonhuman, names.

Izzy gracefully accepted the silent compliment, giving the other woman a nod with a brief lowering of the eyes that indicated she’d caught it, and appreciated it. She pursed her lips a little as she considered both Skye’s answer as well as the counter question. Wizard magic had a tendency to interrupt things, like electronics and just about anything else technology based. The little trick she had of managing to be on every VIP list known to man wasn’t exactly magic - at least, not by wizard standards - and didn’t really seem to have an effect on anything. 

“I draw. And build things. Sometimes take bets at bars and then shark people out of their money at the pool table. Or I go dancing. A lot. I don’t read as much as I used to, but…. it does still happen.” Drinking and other adult activities didn’t seem the right thing to share. With other company, perhaps, but she wasn’t getting the feeling that her new acquaintance would appreciate it. “What’s your favorite genre? Of course, it might also be a good time to ask if you’ve got something I can call you that doesn’t sound like ‘random girl I met this one time’.” 

Skye listened to Izzy’s answers and couldn’t help the slight wrinkling of her nose. It sounded a lot like what her older sister liked to go out and do. “Mythologies, some histories, but I do like a lot of historical fiction.” Came the automatic response. She loved learning histories and mythologies about civilizations. Admittedly, some were a lot more interesting than others. “I also like to draw...but that goes into the magic. It’s more of a...ritual sort of thing.” Now Skye frowned at her own explanation. It sounded like a cliche sort of summoner thing, when she really wasn’t.

She just needed a way to let out the magic sometimes and creating stuff was just...fun and challenging.

“Skye. Who’re you?”

Surprise touched her features as she regarded the other woman, the surprise slowly being replaced by curiosity. “Really? That’s not only a shame, but also seems like a crime of some sort. Everyone should be told at least once in their lives that they have nice eyes, or beautiful hair…. or a nice ass.” Both shoulders rose in a quick shrug as she suddenly grinned. “Of course I meant to own your looks. Not everyone is fortunate or blessed when it comes to the genetic lottery, but it looks like you didn’t do too badly.” Izzy fluffed violet hair that showed no trace of uneven coloring, fading along the strands, or bleach anywhere near the roots. “So, tell me something…. what do you do for fun?”

At the mention of a beautiful ass, Skye snorted a laugh. More out of surprise than anything. At the mention of owning her looks and being genetically blessed, Skye arched an eyebrow and gave the other woman a pointed look. Silently saying that the other was genetically blessed too. And when she fluffed out her hair? Well, it made Skye lean more towards the fact that the other didn’t dye her hair that color. So maybe it was a glamour if she had Far blood in her? “I like to read. Or do magic. You?”

Pick yourself up off the ground, no one is going to do it for you

An absolutely stunning dagger with a leaf shaped blade, in which the tang appears to have been wrapped around to form the handle and joined again with the blade, then chiseled into the design of an oak branch with leaves and acorns, German, ca. 19th century, from Czerny’s International Auction House. I love this tremendously, and I wish I had the money to buy it (as of now, it is still for sale).
