I know this is asked endlessly but why do so many people think they are INFJ or INFP ( maybe INTP) ? Are they usually ISJ’s ?
Because online profiles:
NF: You are sparkly and magical and creative thinkers and SUPER UNIQUE.
NT: You are so different and a GENIUS and totally special and LOGICAL.
vs.
SF: You probably bake cookies or… clean your rooms or something boring.
ST: You don’t like change and love rules and stuff. Ugh.
Online, if you show the slightest hint of creativity or intelligence, people slap an N label on you, even though that’s gross stereotyping. I see this all the time on Personality Forums with typing public figures or celebrities. The vast majority of them are S’s but almost everyone with a basic understanding of MBTI calls them an N-type, because they mistakenly assume only N’s can be creative. Music in particular is a heavy sensory realm because – duh – it deals with your senses! There’s also a huge slant of personal bias, where people want their favorite actor or celebrity to have something in common with them and because they call themselves an INFJ then their ‘favorite’ has to be an INFJ too.
The only two celebrities I’d safely call INFJs in Hollywood are Ian McKellen and Darren Aronofsky. Cate Blanchett is a MAYBE (she’s strong Fe, but I don’t know that she’s necessarily Ni). James Cameron is an ENTJ. Tim Burton is an INFP. They are vastly outnumbered by Sensors. And that’s how it is, all across the board. Which means that a lot of creative people are sensors, who are being told through basic stereotyping online in profiles and such that they have to be an N to be creative. I saw a blatant example of this about ten years ago, when an obvious ESFP in my life got her type right – but then she studied and read the bias a little more, and became convinced she was a “super deep” INFJ because she had little flits of Ni and wasn’t a selfish person. Yet, not only was her entire focus on the sensory realm (she majored in fashion), she was EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD AT SENSORY THINGS. Unlike INFJs.
I honestly don’t know why a sensor would want to be an intuitive; sensors do not have to re-invent the wheel because they lack basic sensory skills. They tend to just go out in the world and DO things instead of trying to figure out HOW to do them, like an N. =P
