i have been working on this stupid theme background for four hours now and for the life of me, i can’t get it to be the right size.

will’s annoyance is noticed immediately, and that train of thought is brought to a grinding halt. playful expression softens, arms wrapping around the older man’s neck to pull him in for a peck on the lips. “babe, i’m sorry, alright? i was just joking. i… i didn’t mean to strike a nerve there. you know i love you, and i– i love being with you, and yes, sex with you is… great, but i know that’s not all this is, or all you care about. i know you care about me, and i really appreciate that.” grip is tightened as emmett pulls the writer into a tight embrace, face naturally finding its home in the crook of the other’s neck. “i’m just– god, listen to me. i really do need to sleep. i’m rambling, aren’t i?”
“i’m sorry. i don’t mean to be so ... sensitive.” the smile returns to will’s expression and he comfortably wraps his arms around his partner, tucking him against his chest. as he younger man rambles, the playwright finds himself chuckling under his breath. emmett did tend to ramble, especially when he was tied. “you need to lie down, darling. come on, let’s get you into bed.”

bashful smile grew more confident as their fingers were linked together, eyebrows quirking at will’s obvious lie. “good. and you know you can’t fool me, babe, picking out lies is kinda my job.” emmett rose, somewhat shakily, free hand pointed in playful accusation at his boyfriend’s chest. “then you can’t try to start anything. much as i could use a little stress relief, if we’re going to bed, we’re going to sleep. not ‘sleep together’, but actually rest. no funny business.”
though playwright wants to laugh, a look of annoyance crosses his expression. “where in anything i just said did you pick up that this was me trying to get credit.” not waiting for an answer, will carefully swats emmett’s hand away from his chest, trying to not look as offended as he feels. “i wasn’t planning to try anything, but thank you, emmett, for setting those ground rules for me.”

lips part as if to protest, but the lawyer falls unusually silent at his partner’s words. instead, he merely latches onto will’s wrist as he snatches the last of the files away, looking up at him with ( extremely tired ) puppy-dog eyes. “only if you will. don’t think i haven’t heard you typing away in the den all night.“ thumb glides across the other’s skin as he stares at his desk, suddenly bashful. “‘sides, i’ll sleep better if you’re there.”

“you haven’t. i wasn’t awake all night.” it was a lie, and a bad one at that. sighing, will shrugs as he frees his wrist, only to link his fingers with emmett. “fine,” comes soft spoken word, submission clear as a smile spreads across equally tired features. “but talking about the case in bed also constitutes as working, so don’t try it.”
sometimes i get debressed when i remember that wonk really spent over forty years on his own.

“nah, i remembered.” lieutenant can’t help but chuckle at the size discrepancy between himself and his partner, made obvious by the way his t-shirt hung off of tom’s thin frame. he grins down at the younger man, one arm slung over his shoulder as the other hand slides into the ample space between the fabric and tom’s bare chest. “i don’t mind, though– it looks better on you.”

a wave of content washes over tom. he leans into the taller man, chuckling as lips press to the man’s wrist. “it’s comfortable,” he remarks, adjusting the fabric on his shoulders. “smells like you too. were you looking for it?” eyes raise; composer turns slightly, just enough to partially tuck himself again partner’s chest. “i can give it back if so.”
