To All The (Stray) Kids I’ve Loved Before | v
I threw my phone on the bed and sighed loudly. “Those fakes” I whispered to myself. Both Jisung and Jeongin promised to go to the library with me to study but cancelled one hour before. Jisung went to help Changbin with a rap and Jeongin said he doesn’t feel like it. I got up and grabbed my bag. Might as well go early. I knew I wasn’t gonna be able to understand anything, but with the test coming up tomorrow, I knew I had to go study either way.
Curse my procrastination.
I got to the library and made my way to one of the tables. I got my things out and started studying. One hour later, I had highlights and pens sprawled on the table, my notebook and the notebook Yeojin lent me, a drink on my desk, I had everything with me , expect my motivation.
I put my head into my hands and sighed before looking at the notebook again and whispering “I’m gonna fail this class.”
“Mood, but do you want some help?” I heard a voice behind me say. I turned around to see a guy around my age, with black jeans and a green hoodie. “Yes please.” I whispered, desperate. “Physics?” He asked, sitting next to me as I nodded “You poor child.” He chuckled, causing me to let out a faint laugh. “I’m Y/N.” I said “Seungmin.” he said.
“May I?” he asked, pointing at my notebook as I pushed it towards him. “So, basically I’m assuming you know how to calculate the relative error?” He asked as I shook my head no in shame “I use to, but I forgot.” I said “Well, for that, you need the absolute error, and for that you need the average value and then you take the observed value minus true value and then….” Seungmin explained, drawing on my notebook.
Next thing you know, I was solving equations by myself, and they were correct! “Are you a magician? Because suddenly PHYSICS makes sense.” I looked at him in shock as he chuckled, blushing. “if you need any more help with anything, make sure to find me, ok.” He said as I extended my hand. “What?” He asked “Phone, I don’t have your contact, idiot.” I said as he smiled and gave me his phone. I gave it back after adding myself on kakaotalk on his phone. He was about to leave, when I stopped him
“Oh, one question! Do you know Math?” I asked as he nodded “Could you please tutor me tomorrow?” I asked as he waited for a second before replying with a “Yeah, sure, same time, same place?” He asked as I nodded, smiling. I did some more equations before packing up and heading home, where I called Jeongin.
“JEONGIN! I UNDERDSTAN PHYSICS!” I yelled “Wait…you? Physics?” He asked, shocked “I was just as surprised as you!” “But how do you understand? What happened?” “There was this one guy, Seungmin in the library that explained everything and I understand it now.” I said as Jeongin paused. “Say his name again.” “…Seungmin?” “Kim Seungmin?” “I think so.” “Y/N, you just had a study date with the smartest guy at this school. Everyone askes him to tutor them, but he always rejects.” “wait, what?” “OMG HE THINKS YOUR CUTE” “JEONGIN, WHAT NO HE DOESNT” “YES” “NO”
and we didn’t stop arguing until 2am, when his mom told him to stop yelling and get to bed. The next day, I told Yeojin, who teased the hell out of me. “Wait, you’re best friends with a cute boy, then one of your best school friends is cute, then your neighbor is also cute, then the most popular guy at school decides to let you borrow his hoodie, and now this? Can we change lives, please and thanks!” Yeojin teased as I blushed.
I’m 99.99% sure Seungmin is a genius and helped me ace this test, which made my day. I was so happy the whole day, I even let Jisung make me drag him through the halls, since his “legs don’t work after PE”. I was looking forward to going to the library and studying for the first time.
When I got to the library, Seungmin was already sitting at the desk we sat at yesterday.
“Oh, am I late? I’m so-” “No, you’re right on time, I came earlier to study for my history exam.” Seungmin cut me off and smiled, before gesturing me to sit down next to him. I sat down and got my notebook out of my bag. The same process happened as yesterday, he scanned my notebook, explained while drawing on my notebook, and I felt like I was finally smart again. This happened lots of times. Me and Seungmin started to have study dates at cafes as well, as neither of us could bare the time apart from food.
I did well on every test Seungmin tutored me on, so I tried to repay him by paying for his drinks, but he refused, but settled on having a “I pay this time, you pay next time” system as he knew I wasn’t going to stop insisting. As we started going on these study dates in cafes, we started becoming closer, I felt like I’ve known him forever and I’ve had so much information about him, that I would probably ace a “How well do you know Kim Seungmin?” test as well.
I had the most important test of the whole semester coming up, so I asked Seungmin, if he could meet me before school at a café near school. He agreed and helped me memorize as much as possible. I was so nervous I couldn’t even finish my hot chocolate, offering it to Seungmin, who gladly finished it. “Hey, you’re gonna do great, like you did every test, and it’s all because of me.” seungmin stated, flipping his hair as I rolled my eyes. “I’m just really nervous, what if I get super nervous and write in latin or something?” I asked,slightly panicking.
“You know latin?” He asked “No.” I answered, making him laugh. “You’ll do great, sweetie, I believe in you. Now, we both have 10 minutes till school starts so I think we should be heading to class. And even if you won’t need it, because you won’t, good luck.” He said before grabbing his bag and patting my head and leaving. I sighed and made my way to class. I was shaking so much I could barely walk, but thankfully I got to class and finished the test.
I hope you’ve calmed down, don’t worry about it too much, you probably did great and if you didn’t, well, you won’t die lol
I smiled at the text, causing Yeojin to tease me once again. “texting your boyfriend?” Yeojin asked, teasingly “What boyfriend?” Changbin quickly asked as both him and Jisung looked at me, confused and concerned. “I’m texting my tutor, since when do you believe Yeojin?” I asked “Hey!” Yeojin yelled, playfully hitting my arm as I noticed both Jisung and Changbin relax. My brain was now filled with questions of why would they react like that, but my thoughts, thankfully, got cut off by the bell ringing.
A few days later, we got our test back and my eyes widened as I saw an 100% mark on my test. I got so happy, I hit Yeojin so hard that she almost fell from her chair. “Omg, I’m so sorry.” I said, outing a hand over my hand and helping her to regain her balance. After school, I texted Seungmin to meet me near the school as I happily walked to the meeting place we both agreed to.
“GUESS WHO GOT AN 100%?!” I yelled, when I saw Seungmin as his face lit up. “Omg! I’m so proud of you!” he yelled back before hugging me. I’m pretty sure if I hugged him even more than how I was hugging him, he would be dead. “Drinks on me, come on.” He said, taking his hand in mine and dragging me into a nearby café. It was only then, when I realized how nice Seungmin actually was, he actually cared if I get good marks, not just tutoring me for the hell of it. He was so nice to do all of what he did just so I could get good grades.
I smiled at Seungmin, who was ordering us milkshakes and beaming with happiness, because I got such a good grade. “What?” He asked, looking up from his milkshake “Nothing.” I lied. It wasn’t nothing. It was the first time I realized that I may have developed a crush on him. For the whole café date, I couldn’t stop thinking about my crush on the cute boy in front of me. It was only when I got home, that I squealed and jumped around my room, feeling the crush hype combined with the happiness of my grade take over my body. Once I calmed down, I sighed and looked at the box.
Might as well, as it has become somewhat of a tradition.
