hi! i love your blog :) i wanted to ask if its true that you cant learn to love to code. im kind of worried bc idk ive tried on codeacademy and i like it but i havent tried it fully and i prefer learning something new at first in person... how do i know if i truly love it? i hope my question makes sense! take care!

I wanted to ask if its true that you cant learn to love to code.

Of course no! You can learn to love to code. But loving it doesn’t mean it’s going to be easy. But it’s not impossible. You have to practice, read lots of examples, ask for help and learn the syntaxis of your language.

The point of programming is that you need both practice and theory. Theory is really important. How can you code if you don’t know how classes, loops, conditions, variables, constants, and so on, work? How can you code if you don’t understand the problem? Practice is the way for excellence, so your brain gets used to the syntax, the structure, detection of error and you can focus on the algorithms (the set of rules that precisely defines a sequence of operations).

So yes, you can learn to love to code. You just have to work for it.

I prefer learning something new at first in person.

That’s cool! Everyone has its own way for learning. Presencial classes are super cool because your pace is set by a teacher, you can personally ask them questions or share your views with the rest of the class. And you can enjoy self-learning too! Just try till you found the one that fits you.

How do i know if i truly love it?

Oh darling, this is like life. Sometimes you are up, and then down. You’ll often hate it because there’s a window with bugs and error messages and you don’t understand why. You’ll stand for hours in front of the screen (or the wall) thinking how to solve a problem. You’ll be sleeping and, in the middle of the night, open your eyes and laptop and start typing the solution. It’s hard, but it’s worth it. It’s an amazing feeling that you can create something that was in your mind. For example, you can create and app, a simple program for calculus, a web, even artificial intelligence! There are plenty of possibilities. Everbody doesn’t like the same, but for knowing what you really like, you must try.

I hope it helps :)

DEVEMBER!

So, do you want to devote at least 1 hour of December to programming… I think it is an amazing idea, so I decided to participate. You can find general rules of Devember here.

I, maythecodebewithyou (Jovana), will participate to the next Devember. My Devember will be progressing in Python as much as I can. I promise I will program for my Devember for at least an hour, every day of the next December. I will also write a daily public devlog and will make the produced code publicly available on the internet. No matter what, I will keep my promise. *here describe your Devember*

This devember I decided to continue my exploration of Python. Maybe get more into object-oriented programming, and learn more about web-development, but mostly I think of taking the creative side of Python and creating my own GUI (and designing it afterwards).

December Christmas Patterned Phone Wallpapers

Here are some more monthly phone wallpapers with matching desktop wallpapers. I created versions starting on Monday and Sunday so you can pick the one you use more often!

To download:

mobile: for the best quality, click on the link to the version you would like below, wait for it to load and then simply hold down on the image you would like, press ‘save image’, head to your settings, change wallpaper and select it from your photos.
laptop: right click, save image, add image to a phone folder that syncs from your laptop to phone or use airdrop on iPhone.

I hope you enjoy using these and if so, I’d love to see them in action!  Feel free to tag me #emmastudies in any photos you upload on Tumblr or Instagram. If there are any problems or errors, please let me know via my inbox.

Disclaimer: These backgrounds are for personal use only. The fonts used are not distributed via these downloads nor do I take credit for their creation. You will not have access to use them from any of these files. They must be downloaded yourself. You can find the month headers here, here and here.

I saw this thread on Twitter and it’s haunting. I just want to tell this story to every single person talking about “both sides are just as bad.”

I love girls who are proud and uninhibited about their intelligence and will brag about their accomplishments and take no shit from pretentious boys who look down on women in their field. girls who are outspoken and a bit arrogant and ambitious in a world where we are told that we must hide our intellect and to always put the needs of others (i.e. men) in front of our own are amazing

Guys who complain about the friendzone often don’t care about their female friends’ personal boundaries, forcing their female friends build more walls up. A good cartoon.

Incessantly, I heard a smacking, as of some entitled dipshit whacking, whacking on my chamber door.

Resignedly, I placed another layer, voicing a quiet, repeated prayer, “This dude thinks he’s a player, but I am not a point to score, he should fuck off and bother me no more.”

Quoth the friendzoned, “Fucking whore.”

academia culture is reading articles you know are terrible so you can shit on them with other people in your field later

for those of you who have been told that academia is this wonderful, sophisticated institution, it’s mostly about as mature as a middle school sleepover

One of my professors told our class, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, say it in a footnote,” and I personally thought was really beautful
