Utagawa Yoshitoyo — The Great Elephant from India (Tenjiku watari dai zô no zu)
Steve Jobs was a notably spiritual person, making a now-famous trip to India that the Apple co-founder credited with helping inform his unique perspective. This handwritten letter, postmarked a day before his 19th birthday, is proof that Jobs' spirituality didn't begin in India. In the letter, written to longtime friend Tim Brown in response to a prior letter Brown sent with thoughts on Zen Buddhism, Jobs tells of plans to make his way to India for the Kumbh Mela (he would make his way there later that year, just not in time for the festival). Jobs closes the letter with the circular statement "I will end by saying i do not even know where to begin." The rare artifact will be auctioned off by Bonhams in Los Angeles as part of their History of Science and Technology event on November 3rd. — uncrate.com
