Hi! I am disabled and queer and looking to do my undergrad dissertation on crip theory (potentially something to do with crip/mad time) and am wondering if you have any book/article/theorist recommendations to get a broad understanding of crip theory? Thank you!
hi!! you have made my day, this is so so awesome. always brilliant to hear that someone else is excited about crip theory
the best place to start is probably with Mcruer’s crip theory: cultural signs of queerness and disability. but also!
- feminist queer crip by Alison Kafer (she specifically focuses on crip futures! if you only read one chapter read “crip time and a time for crip”)
- the disability studies reader, 4th edition is available for free online and is a GREAT collection of different theorists! can be cool to find someone you like from that collection and go from there
- anything by Lennard J Davis is good
- the rejected body: feminist philosophical reflections on disability by Susan Wendell
- crip negativity by J. Logan Smilges
- the right to maim by Jasbir K Puar (it is quite dense, so I would recommend reading this after you’re confident with the basic ideas of crip theory)
I hope this is helpful!! I am always willing to discuss any of the main ideas if you have questions or comments. Alison Kafer in particular is one of my favourite topics of conversation!
I wish you luck on your crip theory adventures :)
