I'm not as familiar as I'd like to be, but Stephen King is such an example of "creator typecasting," because, like, holy shit, why is the face of horror's best works... not horror? At all?
Anyways, in general, I'm not really a fan? He's fine? People get way too defensive of the guy that "introduced them to the genre that they didn't explore much further."
Uh, if you want a hot take, though, fuck Kubrick for shitting all over King's work. "The Shining" (1980) deserves the Razzie noms.

You ever get weirded out at how some people fetishize and salivate over extreme violence so much? The reality is that it’s hell. It’s brutal, horrific stuff that takes a terrible toll from the people that actually have to carry it out. Even usages of justified violence leave terrible psychological and physical trauma on the people that use it, from PTSD to amputations. And yet, you see regular people all of the time speaking like propagandists about how great and noble it is. About how it’s weak, effeminate, and wrong to approach situations from any other angle than bombing/killing the shit out of others before they get you. Tons of NRA nutcases and far right dumbasses screaming from behind their computer screens about how the one thing that can make it all better is violence. Lots and lots more violence. If only more people would be willing to hurt and kill others, then the world would be a better place.
You ever think about the kind of mentally broken people that lust for stuff like that safe and sound from their shitty apartments in (just picking out a random country here) Canada? Does anybody around typically hyperviolent blogs like these ever think about that?? Because I do, and then I cry my fucking eyes out for the next half hour.
