Hi anon! You're not wrong - in my fat folder of reference images there's a lot of griffin and griffin-adjacent creatures haha, as well as lots of wyverns and dragons. Special mention to @audelade's griffins here, and all of Abz J Harding's work on Parliament of Rooks - her grasp of atmosphere is just amazing and both of them have had a massive influence on his overall design.

Monster!Kaz's claws and tail especially borrow a lot of elements from 5e's deep crow too - I really wanted a griffin-like creature without the bear elements, if that makes sense. So you thinking of a four-legged crow isn't that far off the mark at all.

Also, I had the immense privilege of receiving this beautiful monster!Kaz from the lovely @when-it-rains-it-snows, which I am still completely enamored with and enthusiastically endorse. The ears are an extremely important detail.
