despite how intentional everything is, the ball in his court, pink flush spreads across cheeks with speed, infecting open space to betray calm demeanor he has built so carefully.

Sigh rings despite reassuring tones, tension thick in the air as he chooses his next words. Any anger he had felt had long since sapped away- holding grudges against Eddie was always an impossible task, through jaw stays set and hand clenches in unease. Deep breath, Bill, in then out. Make eye contact when someone is speaking to you.

“I sh-shuh-shouldn’t have be-been so s-se-sen-sensitive about it. You c-cuh-couldn’t have known.” Because even the mention of the wrong thing ( Georgie, baby, Billy, brother, ~~guilt guilt guilt~~ ) sends him overboard now, lingering wounds of what was lost, nicknames blacklisted because of familiar voices. So many things he can’t possibly have expected anyone to know ( or to ever know, in some cases. )
