I feel like many people have a fundamental misconception of what unreliable narrator means. It's simply a narrative vehicle not a character flaw, a sign that the character is a bad person. There are also many different types of unreliable narrators in fiction. Being an unreliable narrator doesn't necessarily mean that the character is 'wrong', it definitely doesn't mean that they're wrong about everything even if some aspects in their story are inaccurate, and only some unreliable narrators actively and consciously lie. Stories that have unreliable narrators also tend to deal with perception and memory and they often don't even have one objective truth, just different versions. It reflects real life where we know human memory is highly unreliable and vague and people can interpret same events very differently
Some types of unreliable narrator:
The Watson: is present for the event but does not have the same level of perception as protagonist
The Lemony Snicket: isn't present for the event, reconstructs the facts based on later research, can get things wrong or incomplete
The Ted Moseby: is present for the event but has romanticised and embellished their memory of it through nostalgia to an extent that you cannot fully believe it; is also prone to misremembering or outright forgetting details.
The Katniss Everdeen: is present for the event, is the protagonist, but is completely foreign to the world and out of their depth so they don't quite understand a lot of what is going on.
The Rose Quartz: is present for the event, but due to their personal agenda or feelings of shame hides and embellishes what actually happened in favour of a version that paints them in a better light.
The Big Brother: overwrites what actually happened in favour of propaganda.
The Jonathan Harker: is absolutely clueless about what is going on around them and the genre they're in so their perception of events is tinted by their own naivety.
The Goob: the narrator's own emotional bias clouds their judgement of what really happened.
The Tyler Durden: the narrator is suffering from hallucinations and doesn't realise it.
The Pi: the narrator has survived a traumatic experience and copes with it by turning it into a wonderful tale.
The Geralt of Rivia: Narrator lies to save time/patience/just for fun when dealing with people and never bothers clarifying what is actually a lie.

I started a new remote job last week, and I'm the only genderqueer person at the company (and the first person who uses neo pronouns that anyone on my team has ever met, apparently).
So far:
I am so stoked that people are actually trying. 💜🤍💚
It's important to remember this kind of stuff, especially with the world the way it is now. When i started my current job and i told HR about my name and pronouns, she called me to ask which locker room i wanted to be in and told me where all the neutral bathrooms are (which is all of them except the locker rooms).
I've had to come out to my team a couple times because of new hires and whatnot but every time it has gone well. People aren't perfect but they try and they correct themselves. I usually just get nods of understanding and a couple of times people have asked me questions to understand better.
When one of my employees misgendered me despite me directly correcting her and I documented it, the site director texted me at MIDNIGHT to apologize and assure me that he and HR would handle it. The operations manager sent me a similar email the next morning.
We aren't alone. People care. People understand us and are on our side.
i was starting a new job, and before i went in for my first training in the afternoon, i talked to my mom on the phone. she was very excited because a nonbinary person who used they/them had just starting coming to her kungfu classes. "i got their pronouns like a pro because of you, so i got to surprise them with this 60 year old lady being super smooth with their pronouns."
later at my onboarding, a younger coworker surprised me by asking for my pronouns (i hadn't yet considered whether i wanted to be out at work) and i automatically replied they/them. my new boss, standing next to me, went "oh excellent! my youngest is nonbinary, i got this."
not only is people making the effort for you special and beautiful, you're also making life easier for those who come after, in a beautiful pay-it-forward loop-de-loop of pronoun teaching

“Mother nature doesn’t discriminate,” Burrell said. “It doesn’t rain on white farms but not black farms. Insects don’t [only] attack black farmers’ land…why is it then that white farmers are buying Stine seed and their yield is 60, 70, 80, and 100 bushels of soybeans and black farmers who are using the exact same equipment with the exact same land, all of a sudden, your seeds are coming up 5, 6, and 7 bushels?”
i am losing my shit all over the fucking place because yes I believe this company would do this, god damn them.
This is RECENTLY not some distant past. This is NOW.
I tried to find an update on this, but the last news I found were a few articles from April 2019 about how the mediation deadline had passed and that the next steps were unclear.
Okay, so.
In the film adaptation of The Fellowship of the Ring, Frodo gets stabbed by a troll’s spear, and there’s this big dramatic scene where he reveals that he’s been wearing Bilbo’s old mithril corslet under his shirt the whole time.
In the book, Frodo doesn’t tell anyone about the mithril corslet until much later, as the Fellowship is busy running for their lives at the time, and the orcs aren’t kind enough to pause their assault for long enough for the Fellowship to have a mid-battle bonding moment:
Aragorn picked up Frodo where he lay by the wall and made for the stair, pushing Merry and Pippin in front of him. The others followed; but Gimli had to be dragged away by Legolas: in spite of the peril he lingered by Balin’s tomb with his head bowed. Boromir hauled the eastern door to, grinding upon its hinges: it had great iron rings on either side, but could not be fastened.
“I am all right,” gasped Frodo. “I can walk. Put me down!”
Aragorn nearly dropped him in amazement. “I thought you were dead!” he cried.
“Not yet!” said Gandalf. “But there is no time to wonder.”
Meaning that in the book version, for most of the span between the battle at Balin’s tomb and reaching Lothlórien, apart from Gandalf – who obviously figures it out straight away – the Fellowship have no idea how Frodo survived a troll-spear to the guts with nothing but bruised ribs to show for it. What did they think was going on?
You think you’re joking, but after the stabbing incident and before the mithril corslet is revealed, this exchange happens:
“Well,” said Aragorn, “I can only say that hobbits are made of a stuff so tough that I have never met the like of it. Had I known, I would have spoken softer in the Inn at Bree! That spear-thrust would have skewered a wild boar!”
“Well, it did not skewer me, I am glad to say,” said Frodo.
So, I mean.
“Are hobbits indestructible?” asks Aragorn. “Sure, why not,” Frodo replies.

After quite a while, I finally managed to adapt these fun shark anatomy illustrations to Redbubble products! Many asked me to make posters or art prints available for sale and it is now possible in my little store! This is my store’s profile! ✨
I tried to adapt these arts to other products, but I think they were very ugly, so focus on looking for poster, art print or stickers options! I hope you like it and that the price offered by Redbubble is affordable!
In the future I want to make other species of sharks! Thanks a lot for all support! ✨ If you want to follow me on instagram, this is: @AstralRequin
alright here we go
this one's for "stupid" mentally disabled people. people who can't do basic math. people who are gullible to no fault of their own. people who can't understand nuance in some situations. people with cognitive issues. intellectually disabled people.
hey, you're doin' just fine. doing a great job, even! don't put yourself down or feel like your worth as a person rests on how smart you are. we'll be ok
Can I get a sidebar holler for the folks who "used to be smart", who have lost skills, lost memory, lost independence. You're still valuable and loveable, and you're worth more than what you can do
YOU KNOW IT BOSS!!! *has declining cognitive function and memory loss from brain damage*

Having a traumatic childhood means you cannot talk even objectively about your basic foundational experiences without it being "venting", even if you're not actually venting. You just straight up have a huge chunk of your life you can't talk about, full stop, without it being trauma dumping.
And it not being socially acceptable to talk about your own childhood is super alienating. Sometimes people want to know why, and any answer you can give them is going to be off putting.
It's to the point I get irritated when something I said is framed as venting when I'm literally just talking about my life experiences, doing my best to keep emotion out of it.
when I was in high school, I overheard two older students talking about a friend of theirs.
One of them said something like, "it doesn't bother me that [Friend] was in residential mental health treatment, I just wish they wouldn't talk about it ALL the time".
The other replied, "Well, that was all of last year for them. So when they say 'when I was in treatment,' it's like when you say 'last year'."
I try to remember that any time someone says something that sounds Shocking to me. sometimes one person's scary special crisis is another person's last year.
If you want to be accepting of mental illness, you need to accept the fact that some people's everyday lives are going to be terrifying to you. That doesn't mean they don't get to talk about it. Stop forcing hurt, isolated people to become even MORE hurt and isolated because you can't fathom toughening up a bit.
