Green eyes stared at the clock on the wall, and fingernails dug into the palm of a now sixteen year old Aislinn MacCarthy.
Just ten minutes left. Ten, agonizingly long minutes. And each tick seemed slower than the last.
It was the last day of her Junior year of high school, and she couldn’t be more relieved for the long summer ahead of her; This year had been a stressful one…Her workload had increased more so than the year before, and she had been receiving homework and project assignments in nearly all of her classes two to three times every few weeks. And she had been helping her parents more at home after her older sister had moved out of the city; Her younger brother Brody, however….
He had become quite a problem.
The fifteen year old had become increasingly aggressive and violent towards everyone around him after his girlfriend had broken up with him a few months back, and his coach had removed him from the school’s football team because of his negative behavior towards the other players. He was so miserable, that he never even bothered to clean his room, his messes, or anything else. He always said things like ‘Shut up!’, or other foul words to emotionally belittle everyone who tried to even talk to him. He had been sneaking out at night, and was once caught drinking a bottle of Vodka one night by her father.
And the worst of it? If angry enough, for no reason whatsoever, he would punch holes in the walls, throw things at their mother, and physically attack Aislinn. Her father was the only one who could fight him off…
Despite being a skilled ninja now because of the Turtles, she couldn’t risk defending herself…She had a temper, and at times desired so badly to give him a taste of his own medicine…But it was kept in by reason. He and her parents had no inkling about her ten years of martial arts training; If she performed ninjutsu for her whole family to see, she would endanger the existence of the Turtles and Master Splinter.
And that was something she would NEVER risk. So, she took the weekly beatings calmly, despite the bubbling anger that dwelled inside her.
Still, ever since Leo’s return from Central America a few years back, she had been much happier through it all. Without Donnie, she was sure she would’ve died this year from all the tests, homework, and projects, and now that Raph and Mikey were done with being The Nightwatcher and Cowabunga Carl, they had been around more often to hang out with her. And Leo had taught her so much from his training, making up for the year of lessons she missed when he was absent. It made her feel good to know that she had four big brothers that cared for her more than that scumbag that she was forced to call her blood.
The bell finally rung, and the students poured out of the building excitedly, ready to embrace their eight weeks of freedom. Aislinn, after wishing a few of her friends a great vacation, hoists up her blue backpack more snugly onto her shoulders, and quickly dashes out into the streets of Manhattan, to locate the nearest manhole. The warm air was so inviting, her long hair waving in the breeze that came around. However, just as she was about to duck into an alley, she hears loud screams of fear coming from down the street, and turns her head to see a taxi being flung towards her. She screamed, covering her head and shutting her eyes, bracing herself as she was about to be crushed…
Then, after hearing a sort of ‘thwipping’ noise, she opens them again to see that the car had stopped a mere few inches from her body, frozen in midair. She blinks in bewilderment, then suddenly realizes something was holding it in place. Her eyes widen a bit as the sight registers itself.
A large, sticky spider web. Then, a voice from on top of the cab makes her look up.
“Whew, that was close! You okay there, kid? Geez, Venom! If you have a problem with cab fare prices, you could’ve filed a complaint to the company instead of throwing a diva tantrum in the middle of Manhattan; Ya know, like a normal person? Er…Semi-normal person? Well, technically you’re not a normal person, or even a pers–Ah, you know what I mean. The point is, I sense one heck of a bill in your future…”
Spider-Man. The Spider-Man, had just saved her life. The girl’s mouth hangs open slightly in shock, as the red and blue costumed superhero cracked one of his infamous quips at some sort of black, lumbering beast at the end of the street. She cringed; The monster resembled Spider-Man, only its spider symbol was white and bigger, and it had a huge, slacking jaw with many rows of sharp, white teeth, and a long, slithering tongue protruded from its mouth. It let out a snarl, leaping at the Web-Slinger with such ferocity that rivaled that of Raphael. The hero, wanting to make sure Aislinn or anyone else wouldn’t be attacked again, quickly backflips out of the way to the other end of the street to dodge its slashing attack, and beckons him forward with a finger; Once it was close, he shoots a web line to attempt to blind it.
“Ah, ah, ah! Let’s take this away from the screaming civilians, okay? Good. Now, watch the birdie!”
It succeeds as the creature roars in anger, and then, while it was distracted by trying to get the webbing off, Spider-Man web-swings at him, and kicks him forcefully to knock him back, then prepares to web him down into the road with both hands. However, Venom soon recovers from the swing-kick, and grabs Spider-Man’s two web-lines and pulls him towards himself, and lands a devastating punch to his face, then throws him onto the sidewalk. The Wall-Crawler groans, slightly out of it as Venom grabbed him by the neck, about to crush his windpipe with a malicious grin. The teenage kunoichi hisses through her teeth; Poor Spidey…That had to hurt. The monster then spoke in an evil, venomous voice that sent cold chills down Aislinn’s spine…
“Ah, just how we like it…Spider-Man, in the palm of our hands…At our mercy. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide….Finally, we will have our revenge! Sayonara, Wall-Crawler!”
This didn’t look good. If someone didn’t do something now, Spider-Man would surely be a goner. The girl looks around desperately, then notices some power lines above Venom and Spider-Man, getting an idea. If she timed this just right….! Whipping out her Tessen and, just before the alien monster could deliver a fatal blow, she tosses one of her weapons towards the lines like a boomerang, the blades slicing them open and releasing powerful electrical surges; The sparking and flashing ends strike Venom in the back, right on target….
A loud, inhuman screeching is heard from him, as his suit seemed to writhe and flail at the searing pain that coursed through his body. He was forced to drop his prey as he threw the lines off of him, then, once he regained his sight, turned and saw the one who had come to his enemy’s aid. It hisses, eyes narrowing. Aislinn swallows.
“THAT…was unpleasant….”
Great. Now it’s coming after HER…
The creature aims a tendril attack at the youth for her interference. Aislinn dodges a few blows, but it finally hits her in the gut, knocking the wind out of her as she fell to the ground. She sits up as it approached her menacingly, drool dripping from its wild tongue…
Spider-Man, who woke up from the beating he took, sees Venom bearing down on the girl he had saved from being crushed. He quickly webs four power lines into his hands, and launches them towards Venom while his back was turned.
“Lights out, smiley!”
Another scream, louder than the last one, comes from the writhing, sparking monster. The suit it bore then began to tear apart, revealing a human man inside the wave of tendrils….Eddie Brock. Attaching a web-line quickly to the symbiote’s host, Spider-Man yanks him out, separating the two from each other. Aislinn shields her eyes, as the power lines created a small explosion, seemingly destroying the alien substance. She soon looks at the small crater where it once was, then breathes a sigh of relief. She then flinched as someone spoke to her.
“Are you alright?”
Spider-Man, after webbing Brock up to a lamp post, came over to help her to her feet. She nodded, still a bit shaken, but manages to speak, smiling a bit at him.
“Y-Yeah…Thanks. And thanks again. That’s twice you saved me.”
Peter smiled a bit behind his mask; It was rare that anyone in this city said thank you to Spider-Man; Most of the time people called him a menace ‘cuz of Jameson’s little rants about him in the Bugle, so it was nice to get some appreciation for his heroics. His eyes then fall onto the Tessen in her hand, and he raises an eyebrow curiously. This kid seemed a bit young to be a ninja…But whoever taught her martial arts must’ve taught her pretty well, ‘cuz if it weren’t for her, he’d have been possibly eaten by a power-hungry symbiote. Remembering that the other was back near the power lines, he brings it back with a web-line and returns it to her.
“No problem. All part of the job. And thank you for helping me out back there. You’ve got some skills. Um…Those are some big-time weapons you’re carrying, though…Where’d you get them? Not many ‘ninja’ superstores in New York City, ya know…”
Uh oh. Excuse time. Think fast, Ais.
“Oh. Well…I…got them from my…Uncle. He travels a lot, and he brought me to Japan when I was younger….I studied a little ninjutsu while I was there…I’m a fast learner, so he gave me these when I turned ten. Gotta make sure I can defend myself in this crazy town, right?”
Call it Spider-Sense or common sense, but he felt that the girl had just made that up….And as a poor excuse maker himself, he could tell when someone was lying. But he didn’t have time to pry her further, as sirens began to approach.
“Uh oh. My adoring public…”
Aislinn smiled, putting her Tessen away in her belt. “You should get going, then. Don’t worry; unlike that bigmouth, fuzzy-lipped writer at the Bugle, I think you’re doing a lot of good for this city.” She gives him a wink.
He looks to her, grinning a bit at her joke. “Huh. A fan of me who disses Jameson’s mustache. I like you already. Do you need a lift home?”
“I’m actually going to meet some friends right now. Their place is not much farther from here, and I’ll be safe with them. But if I ever get lost in the city with no phone, I’ll definitely call you from the nearest rooftop.”
The Web-Head chuckles, shooting out a web line. “Heh, suit yourself; It’s a pretty fun way to travel. By the way, your name is…?”
“Aislinn.”
“Aislinn. Got it. See ya around, then.”
And so, Spider-Man swings off, Aislinn waving to him as he left. Then, making sure no one was looking, she heads into the alley, removing the manhole cover and dropping down into the sewer. Hopefully she hadn’t kept them waiting too long. She slips on her skates after getting them from her bag, then rolls on through the tunnel.
However, the human failed to notice a small, black stain had stuck to the leg of her jeans, and had slithered into her backpack before she set off….
The boys were already in the tunnels when they bumped into her. Their camera systems had picked up the fight between Spiderman and his enemy and usually, they would leave him to it. Despite them seemingly being on the same side, they couldn’t risk exposing themselves in the daylight. When a news team snapped a glimpse of Aislinn however, that rule flew out the window. They had geared up within seconds, throwing eachother their weapons before swiftly heading out the door. If they stuck with the van, they might be able to remain hidden.
Leonardo turned a corner only to be smacked in the chest. He looked down at the young girl who’d landed unceremoniously on her ass and breathed a sigh of relief.
“Aislinn! We we’re just coming up to get you, are you alright?” He took hold of her hand and pulled her to her feet, then was jostled forward as Michelangelo shoved his way to the front of his brothers.
“DUDE! Aislinn you met Spidey?? Like did he talk to you, did he wave at ya? What was he like-OW!!”
Raphael’s fist his his youngest brother’s skull with a dull thud and he shook his head behind him.
“Idiot…are ya hurt kid?”
He looked her over before Donatello moved closer for an inspection.
“That was intense Aislinn! We were so worried about you!”
BUMP.
The 16 year old female collided with Leonardo’s plastron, giving an ‘oof!’ of surprise and falling back on her bum, rubbing her head as she groaned uncomfortably. She shakes it off, looking up at the blue clad as he helped her back to her feet, her hand squeezing his reassuringly as she smiled.
“Yeah, I’m oka–.”
Then Michelangelo bolted forward, his eyes alight with excitement as he began to question her eagerly about Spider-Man. An amused chuckle escaped her lips, and she looked to Raphael, who bonked him on the head to quell his fanboy asks. He and Donatello also asked if she was alright, making her chuckle once more and wave a hand calmly.
“Relax, guys, I’m fine…That slimy freak didn’t even touch me.”
That was only half-true…She had a bruise on her shoulder from where Venom’s tentacle had struck her, but it didn’t even hurt now. The piece of the symbiote that had snuck into her backpack nestled itself between her books and folders, blending into a blue one with its camouflage ability, so the female wouldn’t catch sight of it when the bag was opened; It would need a bit of time to recover and regenerate from Spider-Man’s attack before it could start searching for a new host…However, despite being weakened, it sensed great power within these four creatures with the girl…
Especially the red masked one. It sensed aggression, fierceness, and ferocity that equaled that of Eddie Brock, who had harbored a deep hatred for Spider-Man…Deep within, there was anger and frustration in his heart…The fuel it fed on…And this turtle was full of it. If it was in its Venom form, it would’ve smirked with malice…
He would make a perfect breeding ground.
Aislinn removed her skates, putting her regular black and white sneakers back on, continuing to tell her story about her adventure to them.
“That thing was huge, though…Spidey sure had a heck of a time trying to stop it…And it was hideous.”
The brunette shuddered, remembering Venom’s ugly face and wicked smile, his long tongue dripping with saliva as he had loomed over her…
Leonardo gave nothing away but he studied her, noticed how she was holding herself and as much as she was trying to deny it, the battle had affect her. He nodded and motioned for them to head back home.
"That freak'd be laughin' outta the other side of his ugly face if he'd hurt ya..."
Raphael grumbled as he headed back, his two younger brothers shrugging behind him. Michelangelo held his arm around their adopted little sister and lead her home. He blabbed about Spiderman, about how cool the real superhero's were but quietened when he was promised a can of whoopass from Raphael if he kept it up.
"That thing is scary though...you sure you're alright kiddo?"
Michelangelo gave her a friendly squeeze, knowing he'd have probably screamed like a child if he found himself face to face with that monster... As they reached their lair, Leonardo couldn't quite shake the feeling that something was a little off. He dismissed it at first but it nibbled at him, as though some one or something were watching his every move. He furrowed his brow, wondering if his concern for Aislinn's welfare had thrown him off balance and did his best to ignore it, for now. Venom was a creature he had only heard about. The monster wasn't usually active unless Spiderman were somewhere near by and as such, the turtles had never had to encounter it. He made a mental note to ask Donnie if he could track it's appearences, this last battle was far too close to home for his liking.
