Floorplanner. Design and furnish a house for you to use for having a consistent background in your comic or anything! Free, you need an account, easy to use, and you can save multiple houses.

Comparing Heights. Input the heights of characters to see what the different is between them. Great for keeping consistency. Free.

Magma. Draw online with friends in real time. Great for practice or hanging out. Free, paid plan available, account preferred.

Smithsonian Open Access. Loads of free images. Free.

SketchDaily. Lots of pose references, massive library, is set on a timer so you can practice quick figure drawing. Free.

SculptGL. A sculpting tool which I am yet to master, but you should be able to make whatever 3d object you like with it. free.

Pexels. Free stock images. And the search engine is actually pretty good at pulling up what you want.

Figurosity. Great pose references, diverse body types, lots of "how to draw" videos directly on the site, the models are 3d and you can rotate the angle, but you can't make custom poses or edit body proportions. Free, account option, paid plans available.

Line of Action. More drawing references, this one also has a focus on expressions, hands/feet, animals, landscapes. Free.

Animal Photo. You pose a 3d skull model and select an animal species, and they give you a bunch of photo references for that animal at that angle. Super handy. Free.

Height Weight Chart. You ever see an OC listed as having a certain weight but then they look Wildly different than the number suggests? Well here's a site to avoid that! It shows real people at different weights and heights to give you a better idea of what these abstract numbers all look like. Free to use.

Why is the Sims community boycotting Curseforge?

I've seen a lot of posts going around calling on Simmers to stop using Curseforge, a modding platform that enables creators to monetize their downloads, with plenty of outrage directed toward modders and CC-makers who are still on the platform. But I've also seen a lot of people who are confused about why there are calls for a boycott.

Curseforge is owned by Overwolf, a company that is donating money to the IDF in support of its ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people.

In late October/early November, Overwolf posted a graphic on their social media asking followers to "defend our defenders" by contributing financially to a fundraising drive for the IDF. They were met with backlash and quickly took the graphic down, replacing it with one that used language about raising money for "those effected by the violence in Gaza" (my phrasing may be inexact) but the money is still going to the IDF and not to any agency actually supporting civilians or doing humanitarian work.

If you are using Curseforge in any way -- by hosting your content there or downloading from it -- you are giving money to a company that is raising funds for an ongoing military campaign against a civilian population.

This is why people are calling for a boycott. If you are a modder or CC maker for the Sims, you should remove all of your content from the website and redirect people to other DL sources. If you are a consumer of mods and CC, you should stop clicking curseforge links and send (polite!) messages to modders and CC makers to urge them to pull their content from the site.

I'm going to dump some basic resources and tips here so that people have a place to start when considering accessibility in carrds, pinned posts, and banner design.

-Here's a tool that allows you to check the contrast between your background and your text.

-Here's an article by Mozilla that covers making your webpage accessible to people with epilepsy and other disorders that are aggravated by flashing lights.

-Here are some UI design tips from Maze that will make your carrd easier to navigate.

Additionally:

-Don't use blinkies or the goofy flaming meme text to communicate must-read information. Both can be difficult to read, especially because they contain flickering/flashing lights.

-Don't censor words with added punctuation marks or numbers. "Gore" is easier to read and comprehend at a glance than "G0r3". Censoring words also makes it difficult for people to effectively blacklist terms so that they can manage their mental health.

-Fancy looking fonts can become illegible when they're used in smaller body text. Use a font that's simple and standard when creating paragraphs or bullet lists.

-At best, your self harm/suicide encouragement and graphic threats make you look like a presumptuous, unfunny edgelord. At worst, they will trigger a well-meaning person who just wanted to learn more about you. Don't do that to people.

Your pages don't have to be boring or devoid of personality to be somewhat accessible. You can have a pastel Sanrio themed multi-page carrd if you really want to, just label your navigation buttons and don't put light pink text on white backgrounds. 🌺

I've noticed as someone with physical disabilities and celiac, that while making mobility aids more accessible is generally a benefit to those who do need it, the opposite appears to happen when it's applied to food. Because of fad gluten free dieters, gluten free food has actually become MORE UNSAFE for people who have actual celiac. The manufacturers are catering to the fad dieters, not the people who actually have to rely on gluten free food for health.

More and more often I'm buying gluten free food that look legit but then I get home and see that I've missed "made on equipment that processes wheat" warnings on it. Or if I'm ordering groceries online, it'll be labeled as gluten free only for the box/jar/whatever to have warnings on it in person. In one obscene case that I talk often about, I nearly bought "celiac certified" ramen that was made from BARLEY! Meanwhile the manufacturers of these dangerous foods marketed as gluten free are still jacking up the price for a criminally low fraction of the amount you'd find in regular food. This was happening before covid and has just gotten worse.

Speaking of, at the beginning of covid I went hungry even when my SNAP was plentiful because people panic bought all the gluten free food. I couldn't find anything in multiple stores. I don't know how high the rate is in my city for celiac, but I'm still suspicious that this was due to the celiac population.

I've been told by epileptics that the same thing is happening because of fad keto dieters. Food that is mislabeled as ketogenic for the fad dieters is dangerous for epileptics to eat because the nutritional ratio is off and it's screwing up their careful and strict diet that's supposed to be so they can control their goddamn SEIZURES.

Tl;dr: don't touch specialized diets if you don't need them. You're not making them more accessible to people who need them, you're making the food manufacters cater to people like YOU instead of the people the diets claim to help and making it even more dangerous for us to eat.

(And if all you care about is money, know that you're wasting it on shitty food in the first place which makes no fucking sense to me)

For reference, peppermint extract is taken straight from satan’s asshole. that shit BURNS and is STRONG AS HELL. normal recipes only ask for a little bit. never eyeball peppermint extract unless you want to explode. What does this recipe call for, you ask?

That is SIXTEEN TIMES the amount recommended in every other recipe with peppermint extract I have ever made. SIXTEEN

The cookie? Divine. Exquisite. Somehow, refreshing. What fucking wizardry is this

What was the whole recipe tho?

It’s actually a pretty simple sugar cookie, just with food dye and the aforementioned Extract of Icy Hellfire. You need:

Mix the flour and salt in one bowl, then cream the butter and both types of sugar with a mixer (or beat the shit out of it with a whisk) for about three minutes. You want it nearly white and super fluffy. Then add the yolks and extracts and once more beat the shit out of your mixture (it might look curdled—vanilla and creamed butter interact weird—but just keep going until it’s smooth).

Then add the flour and salt while mixing until it’s a dough, knead it together a bit, and separate the dough into equal halves. Dye one half red and wrap the halved separately with plastic wrap or seal them tight in ziploc then let both halves rest in the fridge for minimum two hours. Once two hours are up, start preheating the oven to 325 F.

Fun part: roll each half out on some parchment paper until they’re about half as thick as you’d want a cookie to be, and then shape them to be 9-inch square (ish. I got them mostly in the same shape and used the trimmings as regular cookie dough). Stack them on top of each other, roll a bit to adhere, and then use a pizza cutter or something to cut the whole thing into strips about as wide as the tip of your thumb. Cut the whole thing in half one more time unless you want HUGE candy canes and then refrigerate the whole thing again for about 15 minutes.

Gently twist and roll the strips into striped tubes, coat them in sugar, and then shape them into candy canes and bake for 13-15 minutes a batch depending on how hot your oven runs. BAM, candy cane cookies
