I want to post what I think about the situation with Ravn because writing it out would help me work out my thoughts and feelings. I want to make it a public post, because I want to have a record of how this affected me. That's how I have always used tumblr. But I don't want to have any bullshit fight about it. Kpop fandom culture is so viscous. It doesn't even quite feel safe to say anything in the company of other Tomoons.

So many allegations have been proven false in the past with so many other idols, and I have so many doubts about the ones against Ravn and their timing.

I'm even confused generally about why an idol can't rejoin a group if they are found to not be guilty of what they were accused of. I haven't seen it happen in the situations I've seen.

I am worried for all of them. I can't imagine how they have been able to prepare a concert tour and rework all the vocals and choreography around a missing member. I worry about how Ravn will figure out the absolute destruction of his life, not only his work...but his home. I am worried about the emotional well-being of all of them in the face of the tsunami of hate and the devasting erosion of support for the group that is going on.

And there is not very much we can do. Except maybe buy more concert tickets and albums in order to ensure that the group can still be successful. And that makes all this investment I have with the members as a fan feel really hollow and shallow.

Let's repeat that again: There are no perfect politics.

You can never do well enough on every single issue to be on the moral high ground all the time. You can never know enough to not make big mistakes from ignorance.

What you CAN do is your best. What you CAN do is keep trying when you fail. What you CAN do is train yourself to ask questions that help you reflect on your ideas and actions.

We live within human cultures, with all the flaws that define "human." In the world as it exists, we required to act and react too quickly to get every single thing perfect beforehand. That means that no matter how "good" our politics are, we are guaranteed to look back with shame and embarrassment at what we once thought or how we once acted.

For cripes sake.

I'm sick and tired of fans pretending that they, personally, are so much better than others because they only care about the "real" and "meaningful" issues.

Uh, nope. I'm not a newb without a brain that hasn't already thought about everything you said in your bitchy comment and decided that what I had to say was important enough to go ahead with it.

Fuck right off about that.

I just got policed by tumblr users I've never heard of, and I can guarantee were newcomers by comparison to my duration as a caryler.

This is why I stay away from this hellscape. No, you don't have any rights to blame me for fandom foolishness. I'm one tiny voice that nobody listens to on a platform that the cool kids think is 6 years out of date.
