     there she is !! you watch with utter delight as she takes notice of you at the slightest pull on your link, and immediately brilliant gold eyes zero on you . any other would be terrified as the garchomp whirls on foot, stomps her foot to the ground and immediately begins charging .

     as she nears, you cannot help but give her a once over -- so much as you are able to see with her barreling towards you at any rate . her weight displacement with each thunderous footfall is even on both sides -- and her head is bowed low enough that there is little worry of her recovery from the injury she sustained during your excavation the week prior . impact is just as breathtaking as it ever is -- quite literally . though she skids and kicks up a comedic amount of loose dirt to try and stop, her head still firmly impacts against your gut and draws a hacking cough from you . but that is of little consequence -- nothing gets past your inquisitive gaze when it comes to your most dear companion . a fresh tear in the hide beneath one of the ovoid horns ‘pon her head, no consequence of battle you are certain .

     your lips split into a bemused grin the very moment you spy the glare of light on an all - to - familiar pair of lenses . curious that they do not rest ‘pon your most trusted elite’s nose, you can hardly help but ponder what led them to be abandoned here . you bend down to gingerly lift them by the temples with both hands to eye level and study them rather carefully .

     much as you’d like to clean them off as a gesture of good will, you’ve nothing good to clean them with . so far as you can see, there are no scrapes or smudges in the lenses anyway -- immaculate as ever, and you’ve been on the receiving end of a disgruntled lecture on why you ought not use your coat collar as a sub - in for a microfiber wipe . it’s enough to make you shake your head and chuckle quietly as the glasses are gently returned to the place, and you quickly raise that arm up to tap away onto the screen of your poketch .

     your blood burns white - hot with enough rage that you are fortunate you do not see only red as you hold this damnable creation in your hands-- what remains of it, that is . soaked in the melted snow and ice of spear pillar, the shattered pieced shine like a handful of gemstones-- or perhaps like droplets of crystallized blood ... that ought to be more akin to its nature and intended purpose . your faith does not culminate in reverence of almighty time and space, but you feel keenly for the hundreds and thousands wronged by the attempt to bring their gods to heel with this .

     you always had your suspicions ... after cyrus was dragged to the distorted world there was the question, insidious and lingering: what happened to the chain ? had his followers requisitioned it before they were hauled off to their cells ? had it been destroyed and simply simmered out of existence ?

     the question is answered, but somehow it does not bring you any peace of mind . the burden again falls to you, carefully placing each shard of the chain into a small packet, and when there are no more shards left to keep hidden from the world, the packet is tucked away into a pocket within your coat .

     it is the fastest that alpheratz has descended from the pillar, and you are grateful .

     you know this feather . there are very few things in this region yours that have such a brilliant shock of yellow color, let alone that it be plumage of some bird - pokemon’s . insofar as well near any other in this region knows, there are no such creature’s ... never - mind one of legend . ‘tis the very reason you are so quick to snatch it up, risking the latent shock that audibly pops in the air and draws your lips to curl with a hiss of pain .

     you are no chosen . the feather is nobody’s to take but volkners’s, least of all yours . but you do anyway .

     with the ease of one who has long perfected the skill (     and truthfully, 'tis not the first time you’ve needed to warn someone of something like this     ), the feather is brought aloft, hissing where it fights against the skin of your fingers to be freed once more . the photo is snapped quick enough and then ‘tis all but shoved into a pocket .
