⠀❛——LOVE,SIMON❜ ,, the talk of the town. came to the movie theaters near you. everyone knew what it was about ,, some were just raving to see it. especially ‘ CHERYL BLOSSOM ‘ ,, whom had a secret herself. a secret that her mother hid away. throwing away any trace of what cheryl hid deep within her. so here she stands ,, at the theatre ,, sipping a cherry cola. eyeing the audience ,, no one came to her attention. ‘ THEN ‘ a raven haired female came clear to view. ⠀❛——VERONICA LODGE ❜ ,, an undeniably dazzling girl who was also ‘ BREATHTAKING ‘. it seemed to cheryl she wasn’t with anyone ,, so she approached her.
⠀that night ,, the two sat in the movies ,, hands brushing whenever they reached for popcorn. small whispers about the movie in each other’s ears. more towards the ‘ COMING OUT ‘ part of the film ,, tears streamed down cheryl’s face. she had learned to silence herself when it came to tears. believing no one noticed ,, she was so wrong. the raven haired princess had spotted the tear stained face. not a single word said to each other. wiping her eyes ,, cher rushed to leave the theatre. she was ( EMBARRASSED ) ,, at the pieces that were lying around her. a mirror that her mother smashed in.
⠀the idea of going home was just not an option ,, not like this. instead of leaving the lodge girl behind ,, cher offered to take her to pops. some milkshakes && cheese fries didn’t seem too bad at the time. && so they went ,, sitting in a booth ,, alone in the back. a perfect untouched strawberry milkshake with a pink straw through it. whipped cream swirled flawlessly making it too pretty to drink. the hot cheese fries were beginning to go cold since cher wasn’t all too hungry anyway. then it came to the moment ,, the thing she dreaded but also dreamed of. to openly come out to veronica ,, whom cheryl felt something for. the attraction was indisputable. ( UNQUESTIONABLE ) would be a better word. tears welling up in her eyes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀❝——i never cry at movies. real life’s tragic enough. but when simon’s mom said he used to be such a carefree kid, growing up, and then at a certain point he stopped being that happy kid because he was hiding a secret, it just…❞
⠀⠀cheryl took a deep breath and paused. she knew what she was about to do. this will change the course of things ,, throw the whole game off. an unsettling feeling churned inside her ,, and after what felt like an ( ETERNITY ) ,, her cerise lips were opened back up & spilled the cup she never wanted to tip over.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀❝——everyone thinks I’m this loveless monster, but it isn’t true. i loved someone who loved me.❞
⠀⠀cheryl’s oxygen got hitched up in her throat ,, heather was the name of the girl she loved. && from then on ,, love was such a ( RARE ) thing for cher. foreign to the tongue && scarce. long nails tapped against the table in anxiousness ,, a waterfall dripping down from her eye sockets. was this the way she wanted to go? to the girl she held ‘ SOMETHING ‘ for?
Veronica had been so excited when she’d heard about Love, Simon. Finally it seemed like the world was adjusting to sexuality and actually providing LGBT+ representation in popular media. It was only a small start, but it was a start. Veronica had realised she was bisexual back when she was only twelve years old but it wasn’t something that she advertised or specifically kept secret. Although in saying that, she didn’t want to tell her parents anytime soon. She had no idea how they’d react.
Watching a gay teenager coming out to his family was something that Veronica knew would be deeply personal to her so she decided to go by herself. When Cheryl approached her she didn’t feel as though she could tell the redhead to leave her alone. Plus there was something about Cheryl’s face..Veronica found herself wanting to hug Cheryl without having any idea what was wrong.
As the movie played, the two girls were constantly whispering to each other, enthralled by the captivating story. Veronica couldn’t help but notice the tears running down Cheryl’s cheeks as Simon came out. It didn’t take a genius for Veronica to clue in that Cheryl was reacting this way because she was gay. She’d always had a suspicion but she wasn’t going to talk about it unless she was ready. So instead of saying anything, she wiped her friend’s cheeks with a comforting smile.
When the movie ended, Cheryl rushed out and Veronica quickly followed. She wasn’t going to leave her alone while she was feeling this vulnerable. They agreed to go to Pop’s and before long they had ordered food and were sitting across from each other in one of the booths that the two of them had become so accustomed to.
They sat and Veronica watched as Cheryl clearly struggled with her words. It become imminently clear that Cheryl was going to come out and Veronica reached over to take the girl’s hand, offering support and comfort. Part of her wanted to confess her own sexuality so Cheryl didn’t feel so alone, but she also didn’t want to steal her moment. Instead she listened, squeezing Cheryl’s hand to encourage her. Cheryl was beautiful and so strong, Veronica knew that she could say what she’d clearly been holding onto for so long.
