Your first shift back at the coffee shop, and you’re already running late. You stayed the night back at your actual apartment; Dave had been busy and was already out this morning. You got so used to staying with him or having him pick you up for work that you almost forgot how long it really took to walk from your place to Espresso Yourself.
The brisk walk on the streets of Brooklyn shakes the last of the sleep away from your mind, and your gloved fingers fumble in your bag for your phone. 8:06. You walk faster. The park on your right passes you by as your legs begin to burn. You always enjoyed the nice scenery - a welcome change from the dirty traffic - but today you pass on the other side. It’s quicker, even if only by a little.
Waiting at the crosswalk, you glance over to the park, wondering if you’d catch a glimpse of Tony on his bench. He would normally be out there at this hour, but with so many things changing at work, you weren’t sure he’d be there today. When you look, you see his figure, back facing you. Before the light changes, you catch a glimpse of his profile and, wait, no. That’s not Tony.

I have wonderful news y’all.
