HEADCANON - Akira and Justice
To say that Akira is someone who wants justice for everyone would be an understatement. Due to the circumstances behind his criminal record and probation, he wants everyone to be treated fairly, which is what he pursues as a phantom thief. The term “Ally of Justice” or “Seigi no Mikata” is used somewhat often in the game, and I can’t help but draw parallels to another Ally of Justice, that being Shirou Emiya. To be an Ally of Justice means that Akira will fight for the concepts of benevolence, justice, loyalty, and love in which he and his friends believe.
He’s not as self-destructive as Shirou is, but he does make some less than stellar decisions in order to keep his friends safe and can be quite impulsive about it, going as far as to get involved in things he shouldn’t have just to ensure his friends are happy, just look at how he got involved with Sojiro and Futaba’s situation, or how he resolved the issue with Kawakami or Hifumi. He gets involved, sacrificing himself so that his friends and people in need are happy. He doesn’t draw attention to it, saying that it’s only natural he cares about them, but his friends know.

The two had plans to study, seeing as exams were coming up soon, but someone had to be late to their meeting. “Have you been slacking this whole time? Just because you’re a Phantom Thief doesn’t mean you can’t study! We cna study at Leblanc if it’ll make it easier.”
“I don’t lose track of time.” A clear lie to anyone who knew him for more than five minutes. Akira did have a tendency to daydream and get lost in thought and this just happened to be one of these cases. He forgot he’d made plans with her to study, he was mostly doing it for her. Ever since Makoto whipped them into shape, Akira had been studying more and improving his grades steadily, so he didn’t need a study session as bad as Ryuji did... But he appreciated the company. “Nah, it’s fine. I haven’t been slacking off, if I was, Makoto would have my head before you could say ‘I’m sorry’. Wanna go to Leblanc or do you wanna study in the library? Either way is fine to me!”

Why did you agree to take me in?
I really love how they’re giving Ren a lot more personality in the anime. He’s still quiet most of the time, but the few expressions he was shown to wear and the way he speaks show a lot of what he’s feeling inside.
Shading both his eyes in this scene was a great move in my opinion. Topped with his voice that had gotten slightly deeper and quieter, it’s a great display of him hiding his emotions. Because that is what Ren did–does. He was given a criminal record, kicked out of his school, forced to change school and to live in an old dusty attic. Not to mention his “supervisor” wasn’t really helpful in welcoming him. I admit, Sojiro seemed nicer than he was at the start of the game, but when Sojiro came to show Ren his room and told Ren he wasn’t interested in what he had to say about what had actually happened nor did he want to know and he even said not to involve him in it
In other words, they got rid of you for being a nuisance.
The change in Ren’s expression said it all.
It’s no use. He wouldn’t listen. He wouldn’t believe me.
That’s what I think he must be feeling.
And the way he said “Okay” in resignation to Sojiro after his lecture…
Anyway, don’t get yourself involved in any nonsense. If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. And no matter what happens, pretend like you didn’t see it. Got it?
I know Sojiro is probably only trying to look out for him in his own way. But Ren is not like that. If he knows there’s something he can do about it, he’s not the type of person who will just stand by and let bad things happen. Not to mention how his new teachers at his new school just immediately labeled him as the problem kid without hearing his side of the story first. That’s why he is frustrated. And he has to hide that frustration if he wants to survive the next year. And I love how the shot that showed his glasses shielding both his eyes conveyed this feeling perfectly.
Or maybe that’s just me thinking too much and looking into things too deeply lol. I’ve been trying to analyze his character in the past couple weeks for my fanfiction about Ren’s past, but the game only gave us so little so I’m glad the anime manages to capture an essence of Ren’s personality. All in all, Ren is a very interesting character to analyze.

How long had it been since Akira left Tokyo? A few months maybe? He sucked at keeping track of time, Morgana usually did that for him and Akira was thankful for that. During his time in Tokyo, he and Ann had gotten… Closer and since he left, they’d been keeping up a long-distance relationship (which Akira hated sometimes, not that he’d tell her that) but he did miss her and the gang, to the point that, after talking and talking to his parents, they agreed to let him return to Tokyo and live with Sojiro again. Akira was ecstatic! Though only Sojiro and Futaba knew that he was coming back, he wanted to surprise the gang, but first… Ann was his first stop.
He had already dropped his stuff at LeBlanc after a rather warm welcome (or as warm as it could be when it came to Sojiro) and instantly set off to find Ann. If he knew her, and he did, she’d be at a modeling gig and turns out that he was right! Ann was just finishing modeling for the day. Akira got behind her, tapped her shoulder and when she turned around he smiled at her and opened his arms slightly.
“Surprise! I’m back in Tokyo and Shujin! Only Sojiro and Futaba know, and I asked Futaba to not tell you guys, I wanted to surprise you,” He explained as he sheepishly rubbed the back of his head and waited for her response.

The Lovers had never thought she’d be involved in a long-distance relationship, or any sort of relationship while she was still in high school… but life had a way of surprising her. Everything that happened during her time as a Phantom Thief had proven that beyond a shadow of a doubt–but falling for Akira had surprised her most of all, even moreso than those feelings being returned. The period of time they had together before he had to leave had been all too brief, but they had done their best with what they had and that extended into once they were apart. It felt like their entire relationship was built upon stolen moments, something the Phantom Thief saw the irony in–but it was better than not having Akira at all.
She just had to make do and the day would come where he’d be with her again.
When the Fool approached her, she wasn’t thinking of the long term… far from it. Instead, she was fantasizing about not having to wear the nosebleed-high heels she’d spent the last few hours posing in–and with zero shots involving her seated. A pained groan as she resisted the urge to just kick those designer torture devices off her feet, cost be damned. Before she could act on it, though, that tap to her shoulder had her turning around with a sigh.
“Yeah? Can I he–”
And then a wordless sound born of pure and unadulterated joy left her as the Lovers surged into those opened arms, his words barely having the chance to register as she hugged him as tightly as she could. Burying her face in his neck, she quaked beneath the force of being with him again–and when she finally looked up at him? She didn’t turn a single hair at their audience bearing witness to the urge she followed.
After all, anyone that dared to interrupt that soul-searing kiss would get burned.
Akira did expect Ann to hug and kiss him, I mean if she didn’t then he would be the one to do it. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back, the kiss was gentle yet so passionate, something a bit uncharacteristic of Akira but, then again... He hadn’t seen her in months and that first kiss was sort of his way of letting her know how much he missed her. He’d always been one to let his actions talk for him instead of words. Though he had planned something with the help of Futaba and it should be working right about now. Suddenly, from the speakers on his phone, a song began to play. It was a personal favourite from one of his favourite American bands.

Somehow the kiss went on for about a minute but Akira was the one to break it because, well, humans need air. He smiled and in between panting, he spoke. “You missed me then. Good to know... I missed you too Ann.” He had a gentle and happy smile on his face, the kind that was reserved for his closest friends.
