casual reminder that when referencing peoples of australia, it’s best to say “aboriginal peoples and torres strait islanders” or some variation; as “aboriginal people” isn’t an all inclusive term considering torres strait islanders are all their own.
do not use: -aborigine/s : see point about about torres strait islanders. this also starts down the shortening path that created slurs -indigenous : this is terminology pushed onto aboriginal peoples and torres strait islanders by the colonizing masses. -blackf*lla : this term used exclusively and socially by aboriginal peoples and torrest straight islanders. usage would be entirely out of place and derogatory -anything else you think references aboriginal peoples and torres strait islanders. it’s probably a slur.
i’d also say, don’t reference using local or tribal terminology. there are many, many tribes and languages (hundreds, people). misuse is entirely offensive. just stay away from this.

In reference to the argument of "why aren't you mad at a black man [Devon Terrell] playing Obama in Barry but mad at Tom Hardy for playing a biracial character he wrote for himself, it's the same thing": It's not. Not only are White roles represented, white actors are also used to represent every other race. Not even in regards to filling POC roles with white actors, but also by taking whitepassing POC (not even always whitepassing) and calling them white. This is exactly what 'white washing' is. Using a black man to represent a mixed race Barack Obama does not underwrite the struggle, challenges, and mis-justice associated with being black in an inherently racist world. It doesn't take this struggle and put it under a white mask. It represents his blackness instead of suppressing it. There is no struggle attached to being white because white people hold privilege. For reference: An example of white privilege would be thinking that Tom Hardy being cast as a biracial character and 'a black man' being cast as Obama in Barry are the same thing. An example of racism would be referring to Tom Hardy by his name and simply calling Devon Terrell 'a black man', as if one = all.
