And one doesn't just make that choice once. One makes it again and again.

I don't think it's fair/accurate to say Din is in a cult. Sure, the specific stipulations for this offshoot sect of the culture is, I think, a little self-righteous ("you are NOT a Mandalorian if you remove your helmet in front of others"). However, it's not like anything bad happens when you break the creed-- no one is actively threatening you if you choose to/have your helmet removed. It's like "hey this is the deal here, so follow the rules or don't, it's up to you. You just can never come back ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if you don't like it here, you can leave"

Also, the withholding of the information towards Jedi and the Force? I think it just never came up? Like why would they need to talk about it, if the older, more knowledgeable Children of the Watch were under the impression they were all dead?

I think Din's culture/creed is valid. Just as valid as any of the other Mandalorian culture sects, at least.

I agree. If you run what we know about how Din's Mandalorian group acts and believes up against the "cult checklist" it becomes clear that it fails on almost all counts. Do they have a more traditional even conservative idea of how the Mandalorian creed should be observed? Yes. But that doesn't make them a cult by default. That would mean every single observant religious person was a cultist and ehm, that really isn't true and takes some effing extremism to try and pass off as true.

Din: I hate being the ruler of Mandalore. It’s so much responsibility and Bo-Katan is always trying to kill me for the Darksaber, I’m tired!!

Boba: are you kidding me ruling Tattooine is so boring. There’s no problems anymore and pretty much the only thing you have to do is not be a jerk. I miss fighting people who pissed me off.

Din:

Boba:

Din and Boba in unison: WANNA SWITCH?

boba and din staging a fight so that boba can “take” the darksaber:

She helped film Din’s message to Moff Gideon, she’s got this one covered for sure

Or: they repaint their armor and do a whole prince and the pauper thing. I need this if only to watch Din slowly study Boba’s swagger to see if he can replicate it, and also to have Boba walk in to where’ve Bo Katan is staked out like HEARD YOU WANNA GO???

logic extremists is such a funny concept like sorry you’re just too emotional we gotta kill you

While yes, the concept does have humorous sides, I honestly found the concept a good way of showing that fanaticism and extremisms can be supported by any ideology. Like a lot of the time people act like only ideologies that involve some sort of divinity can do this, but that isn’t true. Any ideology can go to the extreme and have fanatical supporters.

Because fanatics will twist and turn any doctrine to fit what they want it to be, to support their own world view. And I find there’s a certain, “J’accuse” against western society’s reliance on “being rational” as a badge of honor or just having your words accepted in the existence of Logic Extremists. Like in a discussion, often of oppression, being emotional is used as “evidence” that the speaker’s point isn’t valid, that if something can’t be argued “rationally and calmly”, the other person is wrong.

One of these days when I have the time and mental fortitude I’ll write a breakdown of the commentary the Logic Extremists make on our own society.

re: the mandalorian season finale: the real reason that Luke didn't really introduce himself or anything, just showed up, said he was a Jedi, and walked out was, because he was NOT expecting Grogu's dad to look Like That™ and just immediately blacked out from the moment he saw that shiny beskar armor until he got into the elevator (and now he's secretly hoping single dad Din Djarin will come pick his kid up from Jedi boarding school every weekend)

luke skywalker: *had planned to be a polite well mannered jedi explaining his intent, who he was, where they were going, how he found them, and visitation rights*

luke skywalker, after getting one glimpse of space hunk din djarin: uUUUUuuuuuuuUMMMMMMMM beep boop I am jedi goodbyeeeee

oh my gods i just watched it and it is absolutely beautiful and fantastic and kinda reminded me a bit of up (by which i mean i unashamedly teared up because i cry a lot watching sweet movies). it’s not even 9 minutes long, there’s no talking, just noises and a bit of background music, but it is truly beautiful and i highly recommend that everyone watch this when they can

HELLO YES OF COURSE i went into it some here but since i’m incapable of shutting the hell up about them here are some more points that i’ve thought of:

  • din “touch starved and covered head to toe in armor, probably hasn’t had his skin touched by another person in years” djarin vs. luke and his incessant need to hug and hold his loved ones constantly, kiss fight
  • and i cannot emphasize enough how fast din would collapse in response to skin-to-skin contact. see: here.
  • luke “i must make everyone else’s problems my problems and also make my problems every one else’s problems” skywalker vs. din “wants nothing more than to just be a side character in this bitch of a galaxy” djarin, fight
  • king and lionheart trope. king and lionheart trope.
  • din tending to luke’s wounds while gently scolding him in mando’a.
  • speaking of mando’a, din teaching luke mando’a. i’m weak. please note that luke’s pronunciation is horrid but he’s trying his best.
  • luke trying to teach din about the force but he’s just not getting it. later on when din is starting to get it, he continues calling things by their wrong names specifically to annoy luke. luke knows this and doesn’t call him on it.
  • also grogu committing force-wielding baby crimes against his father while luke helps him (or at the very most does nothing to discourage it)
  • luke loses brain cells when he sees din interact with children in general because he’s weirdly good at it and it’s just too cute.
  • din loses brain cells when he sees luke fight because he likes a partner who could potentially beat his ass (see: omera)
  • din and luke sparring with the beskar staff and lightsaber, respectively
  • alternatively, still sparring but din is wielding the darksaber 😌

What's the point on hating a character so much? Oh, yes, he's a white actor. Unforgivable. Stop, clown.

Lol, I can see reading comprehension on this hell site still suck ass. If you’d actually read what I said and could look beyond your own racism for just 5 seconds you’d see that I don’t hate the character, I’m pretty indifferent about Lorca, mirror or prime. It’s his stans I can’t handle and their constant insistence that he must be brought back because “he’s important!”. When his only importance ever was as a narrative foil for Burnham.

Like I know you can’t handle that a white man only existed to progress a Black woman’s character but as the reverse have and am the standard I think you’ll all survive it just this once.

Grow up!

I hope Lorca shows up in the next episode. For all of two seconds before Georgiou pre-emptively skewers him. Because I can’t fucking take anymore of these white dude stans screaming for an irrelevant character whose only mission on screen was as a narrative foil for the series’ lead to be brought back and take over the show.

Lorca was the villain, he’s irrelevant to the greater story apart from that. He’d dead and he should stay dead. And if he doesn’t he should get killed immediately on appearing.

Agreed, like come On this is star trek. @ all the fascists there’s literally nothing for you here, go back to ur star wars (not shitting on sw fans who are also decent humans you guys rock)

While this was indeed made about mirror!Lorca in the context of the Terra Firma episodes, it really should be just as much about prime!Lorca. Because the degree to which Star Trek fans scream for prime!Lorca to be found and included in the store, even though he must a giant asshole considering that his mirror version had no problem posting as him for months, is just baffeling.

And then again not, because the Star Trek fandom have never really been that big on diversity except as cosmetic. So clearly proven that it can’t stand a story that doesn’t center on a white dude. Especially when said story have no white dude in it at all. Well one white dude, but he’s inconveniently actually gay and fandom doesn’t seem to like that in a male character when he’s not gay in a way they can fetishize. (Not that some don’t try.)
