me internally: the bom suit represents keith distancing himself from team voltron (his found family), as well as anyone and everyone else. the first time he wore his suit, he saw his worst fear, which makes it a symbol of keith’s innermost fears and insecurities. all in all, the suit represents isolation and insecurity, and keith being apart of the blade of marmora will do nothing good for him.

listen okay nobody asked but im gonna explain anyway because i’ve been thinking about it all day

so like if you’ve never seen these barbie movies before, i’m gonna explain the basic plot and then Why it’s that paladin’s fave movie (so like… SPOILER WARNING IF YOU EVER WANNA WATCH EM?) okay lets GO

under a cut because its kinda long

Barbie plays Clara in this movie. Clara has a nutcracker whom she loves and she doesn’t know it yet but the nutcracker is a prince, cursed to look like a nutcracker by the rat king. Now blah blah blah clara is super cool and great and she saves the world by being badass and its a great movie, 10/10 recommend it!

NOW Shiro loves this movie specifically because of the nutcracker. Nutcracker (aka Prince Eric) feels ashamed because he couldn’t protect the people he loved (aka, his subjects) and that he doesn’t DESERVE to lead them, but that he does deserve all of the hateful words the people say about him :’c

I feel like Shiro would just like deep down feel like him as “the champion” is some monster who did terrible things but like… in the end nutcracker proved himself, and the town loved him but that’s not what mattered. what mattered is that Clara believed in him even though she barely knew him, because she believed that he was a good person. He didn’t really need the townspeople approval because he was going to do the right thing no matter what. 

🤔 what i’m trying to say here is that, if shiro is the nutcracker here, the other paladins are his clara

This barbie movie is pretty much the same as any other Rapunzel retelling EXCEPT that Rapunzel isnt saved by the prince climbing the tour and such and killing ‘the evil stepmother’ but instead defeats her with only her own wit and help from her friends.

Keith, I feel, would deeply relate to Rapunzel. She doesn’t know her parents, and probably ends up with some severe abandonment issues even though they didn’t willingly leave her (which like… same babe… same), but she’s still true to herself and loyal to the people she cares about

It’s not really the beginning or middle that Keith loves, but the ending. If you’ve never seen it: as I explained earlier, Rapunzel defeats the evil stepmother (who’s named Gothel here), but not just by leading her to a fiery pit of doom or anything. She uses a magic painting that transports people between two locations, to lock Gothel back in the tower that Gothel had tried to lock Rapunzel in prior to the final battle. It’s literally like the biggest example of being fucked by karma in history.

The magic painting was something that Rapunzel made with her own two hands, with skills she’d had since as long as she remembered. Painting is something she deeply cares about and it helped to save her life and lead her to a better one, by extension. 

Keith is a pilot like… through and through. It’s something he’s good at, he knows he’s good at, and he’s done it forever. Maybe it’s something that will lead him to his happily ever after, too.

i honestly chose this movie mostly for the aesthetic at first but the more i thought about it the more i liked the correlation. 

its about two friends (read: lesbians) named Liana and Alexa who live together, sell flowers for a living, and love to sing. the basic moral/theme of the movie is friendship. Even if you argue sometimes, as long as you care about one another, your friendship can do anything.

Lance, i think, has a lot of ‘friends’. As in, people he’s talked to and sees around a lot and says hi to and all that, but not people he really confides in or shares deep dark secrets with, etc etc. Hunk is most definitely his best friend and the rest of the paladins are probably coming close? 

but like Liana and Alexa, even though their argument was like a big plot point and kind of drove them apart, they stayed friends forever and, by the end of the movie, will literally be together forever. There’s no place they’d rather be than with each other. 

In my personal opinion, Lance is kind of lonely. Everyone and their mother has seen the ‘Lance is the seventh wheel’ rhetoric but like he truly feels separate from the rest of the bunch. I think that he wants nothing more than just friends he can be with forever.

In this barbie movie, two baby girls are born at the exact same time in two different families, and they look eerily similar. One is a princess (Anneliese) who, once she’s much much older, will be betrothed to another country’s prince b/c her kingdom is pretty much bankrupt because of some fucked up plan of Preminger (who is the antagonist of this movie but he’s not really important to my points). The other leading lady (Erika) is a poor seamstress who is basically an indentured servant to work off her parent’s debts (but like, it’s really not their fault. Madame Carp better square the fuck up if I ever see her in the streets)

For this, I think that Hunk greatly relates to Erika. Ignoring most of the plot here: Erika longs for freedom, but feels duty-bound to stay. By the end, she gets her wish, which is to become a singer who roams the country and is basically a free bird. However, in the end, she realizes that having the freedom to go means that she also has the freedom to stay. 

Hunk doesn’t really long for freedom, I think, but more for choice. He’s a person I feel who loves having a lot of options, even if he’ll never choose the alternatives. I think that he greatly admires Erika for realizing that even though she dreamed and dreamed about leaving for most of her life, she came back because that’s what ultimately would make her happiest. She’s still free, but in a way that she didn’t really think would happen in her lifetime. 

And idk maybe this one won’t make a lot of sense to people, but Hunk is a person who doesn’t like conflict. He’ll kick ass when he needs to, but he’s much happier when he doesn’t have to (which like SAME). 

RECENTLY THOUGH, hunk’s vlog came out, which really shows us that even though he hated being a paladin and all that, he’s glad he did it (which like… Honey…. i love him so much i could die but this isn’t a hunk appreciation post so im gonna hush for now). He’s free and he’s using that in a way that ultimately makes him happy by being part of a movement that will like… save the universe.

this one i chose pretty much specifically b/c its about siblings. SPECIFICALLY because its about one sibling losing the other. 

a brief overview of the movie: Princess Annika is constantly forced by her parents to stay indoors because (spoiler) they’re terrified that the antagonist (Wenlock, an evil wizard BITCH) is gonna set his sights on her and steal her away like he tried to do with her sister, Brietta. Brietta, however, got turned into a pegasus because she didn’t want to marry him, which resulted in her leaving because her parents were so unhappy that they couldn’t break the spell. 

Pidge, as the sister of someone who has been lost for a while, really feels for Annika as she goes out on her quest to save her sister. But I think the ending is what makes her most emotional. The ending is when Brietta is reunited with their parents, as a human after like 16 years?? Like, honestly it’s pretty emotional the longer you think about it, and like can you fucking IMAGINE how excited Pidge must be to get Matt and her parents reunited again, just like that??? GOD IM CRYING ALREADY

This story is about twelve sister princesses who are considered ‘unladylike’ by lots of other royals because they basically just do what they want and have fun. 

I like to imagine that Allura was closer to her dad than her mom (which like hasn’t been disproved by canon so fight me), and so this movie is a tad emotional for her. From what we can tell, Allura doesn’t have any siblings, but I feel she would be incredibly protective over them, and feel close to Genevieve, who is the lead in this movie. 

Genevieve is also very close to her father, who gets sick (poisoned by his cousin, actually. pretty big plot point. he almost dies. both me and allura are probably sobbin). She does absolutely everything in her power to save him and, in the end, it’s because of her love of dancing that she defeats the antagonists. 

Allura greatly wishes to be someone that Alfor is proud of (which like he IS I WISH HE COULD TELL HER THAT EVERY DAY). She’s so desperate to be him that when she couldn’t fly his Lion she was devastated (for more than one reason). So like we know how much she loves him. 

It’s not really the theme of this movie that makes it one that I think Allura would enjoy (the theme being: family can overcome all obstacles), but more the fact that the father is saved by the daughter. 

(just to make it fucking depressing as hell: she probably wishes that she could have saved Alfor, just like Genevieve did)

coran + barbie starlight adventure

this one is pretty ironic i’m ngl. Like Coran would definitely have great fault in the wonky science, but I think he can appreciate the story more than that. 

this story is about Barbie who is Incredible at hoverboarding and lives with her father on an isolated planet with a shit ton of animals. and also she has this power that actives when she hums, where she levitates things? its GREAT I REALLY RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE. She and a band of a few other kids are recruited by the King to stop the stars from disappearing. 

But! Coran… probably really sees the paladins in Barbie here

Throughout the course of the movie, Barbie grows in a few ways but is still the same girl that joined the mission to save the stars. She has a way of thinking that isn’t really something the King appreciates all the time, but it’s something that saved the universe so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ if you cant beat ‘em…

ANYWAY, in the same way that barbie grew but, at the same time, stayed the same, coran sees that happening with the paladins. however, unless i want this post to triple in length, i’m not gonna explain how they each grow vs how barbie grows, and instead i’m gonna end with this: 

coran loved pupcorn’s transformation. this sentence means nothing to you if you’ve never seen the movie but… take it as you will anyway.
