FHJY things that are squatting in my brain-apartment:

  • "I would love you if your name was written nowhere" is quite the statement in a season where names were so important. Fabian is a mortal; erasing his name doesn't erase him the way it happened with Ankarna. But that statement sticks with me: the ways in which Fabian isn't his father's son, and the way he doesn't need to be for his father to love him, so he is Bill's son after all.
  • "You have time." Again, what a statement for Sklonda to make after a season in which lack of time was a central mechanic. But this is where adult perspective is a good thing: as important as it is, high school is going to end up only a fraction of your life.
  • Gorgug really could be a great barbarian teacher. He's fantastic at what he does, he's smart, and just as importantly, he's gentle, and has a perspective on rage that's more than "the better you are at hitting things the better you are." That said, I cannot even fathom the students-having-crushes situation of your teacher being the drummer in a massively successful band. Hilarious.

our house was in the middle of nowhere surrounded by woods so when i decided i didnt want to wear dresses anymore if we were going to some event & my parents insisted i had to wear a dress i would just go hide in the woods. was so committed i almost made us miss a flight once bc my mom packed a dress in my suitcase

i only promised to stop doing this if my parents got me formal boys clothes to wear which eventually they did. i don't feel bad about resorting to violence bc i asked politely and they said no. proud of 10 yr old me for evil annoying lesbian behavior

5th grade was the last time I wore a dress for school pictures. When my parents attempted to force the issue for 6th grade, I climbed onto our roof and pulled the ladder up after me. My dad borrowed the neighbors ladder. As soon as it touched the roof I pulled it up too. By the time I had 3 ladders they were willing to negotiate, and 2 hours late for work.

At first Fabian refuses to interact with his and Fig’s new sibling but one day his mom is dealing with something in the other room and the baby is crying and so Fabian has to pick up the baby. So he picks up the baby, bouncing them gently, and says, “One day, eighteen years from now, I will fight you to the death.” Then the baby reaches up and curls their little hand around his finger and Fabian’s voice breaks, utterly in love with this tiny person, and says, “I will defeat you,” unconvincingly.
