His eyes became slits, bringing the forms into focus through the grey filter of water. The sky was relentless and, no surprise, to the misfortune of some Selkie. Nature even mocked his tribe. He sneered, putting down his hand which had been shielding his gaze. Funny how much smaller people looked when they are soaked to their bones. The chill stuck to his veins, and it was as if it took a life of its own for one moment. The air was heady, Keiss’ silence like a gasp taken by the earth, where nothing but the pause and the hiss of rain was present.
Suddenly, he sighed. Not with resignation, but an internal accord afforded to benefit of these two. “Yeah.”
Still, he was hesitant as he rounded the massive bend of the tree’s trunk, stopping to a spot just out of view from the road shielded by its girth. A place perfect for reconnaissance for foot traffic, which was exactly what Keiss had been doing. A hanging tent was there, a small structure to avoid easy detection and only comfortably suited for one, was glistening with the dew of the storm. He had to bend in half to crawl inside, fetching a blanket with tribal markings hand stitched on top. It was heavy in his hands, what portion of it he cared to show anyway, and he made a motion with his head for her to take shelter. “She can rest a while. Sorry it’s not enough for all of us. We’re gonna have to tough it out.”
“Why are you two out here in this anyway?” Nevermind his own reasons.
zell mutters a small thank you as he wrapped his sister tightly in the blanket, the markings on it familiar to him. did this man make it ? it certainly was warm, and a nice, cozy feeling of home clung to the memories in it. hopefully it would keep out the nasty coughs and sneezes. sickness was the one thing zell couldn’t stand. they also couldn’t afford any potions to heal her afflictions.
lucy huddles into the tent, collapsing once she’s inside, her shivering subsiding after a few moments. the male selkie lets out a sigh of relief, his teeth chattering in the cold. ‘ th- thank you again --- uh... ‘ his bright silver eyes trained on his sister. ‘ we... we were resting. we just came from the mushroom forest. wh-what about you ? ‘
