Book Reviews : We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

This the story of a mass murder, misplaced love and the power of the bond between siblings. This was my first ever Shirley Jackson book and I must say that I was very impressed and left wanting more. I left this book with the realization that some bonds are much stronger than we think, especially between siblings. It wasn’t the murder or the constant aura of subtle anger that stuck with me but the way that the two sisters in the book really stuck by one another and even helped each other pick up the pieces of their not quite perfect lives.

Friendly reminder that you’re allowed to like a thing without knowing every single fact about the thing

You’re allowed to like a movie without having to know every crew member’s name

You’re allowed to like a book without having to memorize every page

You’re allowed to like a video game without having to know all the Easter eggs and cheat codes

You’re allowed to like things and not be an expert on things

Liking things isn’t supposed to be stressful

Sooo I just finished The Sun Is Also A Star and

WOW.

This book is exactly what I needed right now; the writing exceeds beautiful, the cultural representation is wonderful, it made me THINK, and I learned more about science in this one book than I did in 4 years of high school. And I enjoyed that. You can read my full review here.
