MMMKAY— there are two ways you can go about this. The quick and easy way is to make sugar cookies from a sugar cookie mix and just cut open a packet of chai tea and pour it into the batter as you make it. Cause you’re busy and you want making cookies to be a chill part of your day. Pow. Done.

If you want to make the cookies from scratch (that’s what I did for the 1989 Secret Sessions), you can use this recipe I found on a baking blog I like, joythebaker.com and I believe it was originally from a book called The Pastry Queen. If you want another great baking blog, I get a lot of great ideas from smittenkitchen.com too. This is a recipe for basic insanely good sugar cookies. I added the chai element to the recipe because I thought it would infuse cozy holiday vibez into the cookie and it really did. So I’ll star the part that I added in the recipe.

***after you add the egg and vanilla, cut one chai tea packet open and empty the crushed up tea leaves into the batter CAUSE CHAI COOKIES ARE ABOUT TO HAPPEN UP IN HERE***

I made an icing for the cookies, but they’re fine on their own. If you want to make icing for them, just mix 1 cup powdered sugar with 1/4 T-spoon of nutmeg, 1/4 T-spoon of cinnamon and 3 TAYblespoons <—-(I’m so annoying, it astounds me sometimes) of milk or eggnog if you can find it this time of year. The more milk/eggnog you add, the more your icing will become a glaze. But glazes are legit too so basically just LIVE YOUR LIFE.

I lightly sprinkled cinnamon over the icing once the cookies were baked and iced, but there are so many icing options you can pair with these cookies—I mean it’s out of control. If you’re really feeling like living on the edge, you can go ahead and add a few drops of food coloring to the icing to make it festive. No one is going to stop you.

Why?

Okay listen I am in law school and the idea that we can just file lawsuits against Scott and Scooter over our concert tickets is wildly naive and misinformed. Please do not encourage people to do legally reckless things. We should follow Taylor’s directions. She has a legal team and I’m sure she has talked to her lawyers about this and they know the situation 1000x times better than we do as outsiders. Please do not encourage thousands of people to start filing lawsuits.

it's just so telling bc like many people have already pointed out, she's been singing several older songs on TV this era like GMA and The Voice so to block her singing on the AMA's shows that it's so deeply personal in that they don't want her to be celebrated as an artist...they don't want her to be recognized as artist of the decade or be given any praise for her accomplishments which is???? so ugly??? it was never about business or even about making money, it has been personal from the get go. it has been a means of control and devaluing her work and her as an artist. i know there's a lot of specifics that we don't know and will never know but it's so alarmingly clear that they both have no respect for and don't even see her as a person, an artist, or even as their colleague in the entertainment industry

and it’s so obviously bullshit too since taylor has been performing old songs at recorded/televised events. it becomes a problem when it’s with the AMAs honoring her with Artist of the decade aka the biggest recognition she can get really……. imagine being this petty, childish and vile

And it’s insane the stark difference between how men will support each other and how they’ll support their female peers. The amount of male artists who patted justin bieber on the back for... literally doing nothing except admitting to being the abusive piece of shit we all knew he was, vs the glaringly minuscule amount of men who’ve said anything in support of taylor who’s an actual victim here, is stomach churning.

remember when taylor stood up for every single artist in the music industry when she wrote a letter to apple and demanded that they pay artists for their work then stood up for artists again when signing to her label and asked that sales of their spotify shares will result in non-recoupable distribution of money to their artists? taylor has always stood up for all artists in the music industry…..when are they going to start standing up for her 

What makes me really sad is that if this was happening to any other artist, you just know that a whole bunch of big artists would be speaking up in defense of them. But as soon as anything happens to Taylor, everyone falls silent. I hate that Taylor is so incredibly supportive and wonderful to everyone else but they can't even show her an ounce of gratitude back... The artists that have gotten support from Taylor should be speaking up. Anyone who is a fan of music should be speaking up. Taylor literally begged for support and all I've seen is us fans and smaller artists coming to her defense. Where are all her friends??? Where are all the other industry heavyweights??? It is not the time to keep quiet or reach out privately.

Don’t know what else to do

Guys - It’s been announced recently that the American Music Awards will be honoring me with the Artist of the Decade Award at this year’s ceremony. I’ve been planning to perform a medley of my hits throughout the decade on the show. Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music before I’m allowed to next year. Additionally - and this isn’t the way I had planned on telling you this news - Netflix has created a documentary about my life for the past few years. Scott and Scooter have declined the use of my older music or performance footage for this project, even though there is no mention of either of them or Big Machine Records anywhere in the film.

Scott Borchetta told my team that they’ll allow me to use my music only if I do these things: If I agree to not re-record copycat versions of my songs next year (which is something I’m both legally allowed to do and looking forward to) and also told my team that I need to stop talking about him and Scooter Braun.

I feel very strongly that sharing what is happening to me could change the awareness level for other artists and potentially help them avoid a similar fate. The message being sent to me is very clear. Basically, be a good little girl and shut up. Or you’ll be punished.

This is WRONG. Neither of these men had a hand in the writing of those songs. They did nothing to create the relationship I have with my fans. So this is where I’m asking for your help.

Please let Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun know how you feel about this. Scooter also manages several artists who I really believe care about other artists and their work. Please ask them for help with this - I’m hoping that maybe they can talk some sense into the men who are exercising tyrannical control over someone who just wants to play the music she wrote. I’m especially asking for help from The Carlyle Group, who put up money for the sale of my music to these two men.

I just want to be able to perform MY OWN music. That’s it. I’ve tried to work this out privately through my team but have not been able to resolve anything. Right now my performance at the AMA’s, the Netflix documentary and any other recorded events I am planning to play until November of 2020 are a question mark.
