Lehigh Special Collections would like to wish a happy birthday to poet Walt Whitman, who celebrates his 203rd birthday in 2022. Whitman is known across the world as an innovator in free verse poetry and as a powerful voice in support of outsiders from a variety of backgrounds. As a queer, working-class poet, Whitman has inspired readers and writers alike not only to celebrate their unique experiences but also to listen more closely to the experiences of others. Search Special Collections' Walt Whitman items or view the "Whitman @ 200" exhibit online. #poet #poems #waltwhitman #specialcollections https://instagr.am/p/CePCL8oJsoM/

The island had a picnic area and an amusement park, and it was destination for canoe races for Lehigh students while they were singing “Canoeing Auf Dem Lehigh”… #lostisland #calypso #catalpa #canoeing #bethlehempa https://instagr.am/p/CeEKMfWLqAh/

Be sure to stop by Linderman Library to check out the new Words of the Years: Dictionaries from the Collections exhibit. Thomas Blount wrote this dictionary in hopes of improving the literacy of common readers. His work was later plagiarized by a nephew of John Milton, who became more popular, resulting in a bitter feud! #wordsoftheyears #exhibitions #dictionaries https://instagr.am/p/CcyLRYTJjHF/
