I don't quite know if I still have enough crumbs of hope left in me to say it doesn't completely suck, but the more I tally up everything I dislike about it the more it's not looking good for the show lol.

I've always firmly been in the camp of while the movies are terrible adaptations they are perfectly serviceable action-flicks to watch when you're bored. I never had high expectations for the reboot in the first place, but boy did I never anticipate that the show would actually make me appreciate the movies more.

I guess we also need to normalize bad TV show erasure amirite 😏🤙.

Rick Riordan constantly trashing the movies for not sticking to his books then releasing a show in which he rewrites everything and loses the spirit of the books entirely

I cannot begin to convey the level of disappointment I felt when Percy walked into Crusty's store and for a fleeting, glorious moment it felt like the show had truly captured the book's energy with the tacky waterbeds and the department store music and the zany salesman getup only for Percy to say no less than 10 seconds later "I know who you are. You're Procrustes. Your beds are how you trap people." :/

the way show Sally raises her voice and gets so visibly irritated by Percy leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. Parents getting overwhelmed or frustrated by their kids is very very normal but how they react and convey that frustration is what matters and one of the defining traits about Sally from Percy's own perspective in the book is that she doesn't raise her voice in anger to him. She doesn't intentionally make him feel bad. It's some of the very first things we learn about her. And I just don't know why the show can't manage to portray Sally's frustrations and fears while not also having Percy be caught in the fallout of her agitation. It's depressing.

i think my philosophy on adaptations is different from most people's tbh. if i have to see one more take that's like "if you wanted the same story just read the book" i stg.... if they wanted to write a different story why did they choose to adapt a beloved book? like yeah i did want the same story lol my bad for assuming a "faithful adaptation" would be the same story??

honestly I do feel like a lot of the debate can boil down to: is the character portrayal truly accurate to the book, or is it just a portrayal that you happen to like.

New fans about the plot changes in the show: have faith in Rick, it will make sense later
