Pop Cultured

@villa-kulla / villa-kulla.tumblr.com

Hey there! Major pop culture junkie right here. General geeking out over books/movies/shows I love, perceptions of women in a media context, fashion, film studies, and sometimes I try to be funny (for which I apologize in advance). Enjoy!:) xoxo

Some sad news. I just wanted to share that sadly my dear sweet cat Leo passed away the other month. It's been very difficult without him. I know I've been taking a break from tumblr for the past while, but since some of you guys were always fond of him on here, I thought I should let you know too. I always appreciated all your nice words about him, and was only too happy to show him off. As beautiful as he was, he was even more sweet. He was the cuddliest, funniest, most good-natured, charming, lovely little lion you could imagine, and he had all my love. I miss my little friend so much and am trying to remind myself that no cat could have been more loved. My beautiful former street cat with a wonky ear came so far and finished his life with a family that just adored him. I hope we gave him as much comfort as he gave us. Miss you, my sweetheart, and love you always๐Ÿงก

Hozierโ€™s โ€œpersonalโ€ songs on Unreal Unearth

A story in three parts, in his words Francesca (Lust)

Iโ€™m using the poem as a device to distance myself from it, but if Iโ€™m being honest it did start from a personal place. I wrote that for somebody, before I brought it forward to a producer. But the poem offers it a second layer. It lives this other life, itโ€™s not just a secret message that I wrote from myself to somebody elseโ€ฆUltimately when other people hear it, you let go of exclusive ownership, let the song be whoโ€™s ever it is, when other people celebrate it and enjoy it. But in the early part of its life, that song had an audience of two.

Unknown (Betrayal)

Whatโ€™s fun about it, itโ€™s in the 9th circle of hell, the circle of treachery. Itโ€™s a song about being let down by someone you really trusted, the feeling of being betrayed. Dante depicts Satan not as the king of hell but the primary prisoner. In the very lowest part, the fallen angel, heโ€™s the furthest from Godโ€™s light, heโ€™s frozen up to his waist in ice. This enormous being whoโ€™s weeping, heโ€™s trying to get away from the ice, but the more he beats his wings, it creates this horrible wind that freezes him in place more and more. Heโ€™s just frozen there, crying, chewing on Judas. (laughs) itโ€™s so messed up! Thereโ€™s imagery in the song, having parts of your heart stuck in someoneโ€™s teeth, and the frozen angel.

All Things End (Heresy)

I never gave myself permission to write a breakup song before. When youโ€™re in a relationship, itโ€™s such a part of you, but youโ€™re discussing that it has to end, at first seems like something heretical. Because itโ€™s something you believe in, something you have faith in, something that you love. Approaching the idea that it must disintegrate can feel like a heretical thing.ย ย
