PART 1: THE LIE THAT CARMY BELIEVES

So, one of the bases of creating an efficient character arc is to give the character something they want, and something they need. In the pursuit of getting what they want, the theme of the show and obstacles will show them what they need. Most of the time, they need healing from an emotional wound that prevents them from growing into the ultimate version of themselves, capable of winning the challenges of the story. I will try to explore Carmy's wound and, more importantly, the lie that created that wound.

In 'The negative trait thesaurus" by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi, it reads:

When I started therapy (disclaimer: this is not professional advice; I am just talking from how I interpreted all of this), I was introduced to the concept of "limiting beliefs:" lies we have told ourselves about our own nature or the nature of the world. The most difficult beliefs to leave behind are those established in our early childhoods, and we told ourselves those lies to make sense of the world, to make peace with realities we were not equipped to comprehend yet. 

Some examples of lies people belive:

When people believe these lies, they will act accordingly, maybe attracting situations that hurt them but keeping the lie active in their lives. They may self-sabotage or create bonds with people who also believe the lie, even if it doesn't seem this way. 

In some cases, people may develop complete personalities or behaviors to prove the lie wrong, but deep down, they still believe in the lie. Carmy falls into this last category. This is where we find the most contradictory parts of his personality, how he can act shy and insecure in some instances and appear confident and even aggressive in others.

Her perfume White Diamonds is pretty much the most successful celebrity perfume ever (sales of over $1.8bn as of 2018). 20% of all sales in perpetuity goes straight to her AIDS charity. Taylor (and Angela Lansbury) really walked the walk when it came to supporting people suffering from HIV and AIDS at a time where it really was not seen as a sensible thing to do.

She was a compassionate and intelligent woman who cared about people unlike herself, vulnerable people whom society scorned. She’d starred in some of the most classic films of all time, delivering powerful and nuanced performances.

And do you know my main memory of how the media treated Liz Taylor during this time? Like she was a joke, because she was a beautiful woman who got old. Her causes were a joke, her public appearances were a joke.

There was no respect for her, her heart and mind and legacy as an actor. She was important only insofar as she had been the epitome of Hollywood glamour, and then once she got old, she was a joke. That’s all.

Harry leans down and kisses him, and for one long, self-indulgent moment, Draco forgets why he ever thought this wasn’t a good idea.

Because it feels fucking brilliant.

Since they were eleven, he’s never known Harry Potter to be anything short of sincere and powerful. And he can’t deny that he’s been wondering if that would translate into this sort of thing since he was a teenager. 

It does. Merlin, it does.

Draco can’t do anything but try to keep up, endeavouring as he always has to measure up to Harry—to be his equal.

He kisses Harry with matched earnestness, sliding a hand into his hair and finally getting to confirm for himself that it is in fact as absurdly soft as he suspected. 

Harry’s lips trail down Draco’s neck, eliciting from him a small gasp.

Some part of him still knows that this is wrong, because it wasn’t even twenty-four hours earlier that Harry was spouting nonsense in a car park, fucked up on who-knows-what. It’s that part of Draco that speaks up, that manages a feeble, “Harry, this is a bad idea.”

“Should I stop?” Harry asks, making no effort to do so. His teeth scrape the skin of Draco’s throat, making him groan.

It’s too good. 

“Fuck no,” Draco says.

Honestly, why the hell should they stop?

There’s no point in going back now. Regardless of what happens next, things between them are doomed to be different and weird—might as well make it worth it.

This is a distance of roughly 625 miles and we are going to assume that the speed does not include the time penalty of Spain having a different Rail Gauge than France.

At 890 miles of rail you can get New York to Chicago which would be the ideal first route, but what can you get with 625 miles that makes more since than Columbus?

Well at that distance you can get Raleigh-DC-Philadelphia-NYC- Boston

With intermediate stops in Richmond, Baltimore, New Haven, and Providence

That is a route that is not only good, but has potential to be one of the most used rail lines in the world if it were at high speeds and a cheap price

How about putting some more rails, especially high speed, out here in the midwest, so those of us stuck out here can travel without hours in a car or spending hundreds on a plane ticket?

I guess another route of equivalent length would be St.Paul-Madison-Milwaukee-Chicago- -Indianapolis-louisville
