Magic Kaito: The Clockwork Heart now remastered!
And so Magic Kaito took its sophomore tour, a little shakier but no matter—readers still liked what they saw. In two shakes, Gosho Aoyama got his wish: an ongoing salary for Kaito stories as long as he (and/or audience interest) could hold out. Month after month after...
Yes, months. Weekly Sunday was nice enough to hand out guest-spots, but you didn't think it was going to give an ongoing slot to a rookie who needed assistants to finish his college doujins, did you? So off our hero went to the monthly Zōkan offshoot, with all the other rookies on their way in and oldsters on the way out (hey, at least they gave him a corner of the cover!). If his heart was pure and his stories were good, the legend went, one day he might rise above.
God, did he deliver.
No spoiling this one, folks. If you only know Kaito from the anime—or better yet, from Conan—you're in for an absolute ride. TV has never touched it, possibly never will, but it's the one post-Origin, pre-Hakuba chapter every fan remembers. Hell, probably the only one that still has steady fanwork presence. Gosho's turn as an Ongoing™ artist was off with a bang.
(Some say—some sigh—that Magic Kaito never got this wild again, rarely even tried. Maybe they're right. But the shine is no less for it.)
