Any thoughts on the fact that, apparently, chickens and peafowl can hybridize?

----

Aw that's Twisted Sister! She's one of the more recent hybrids, though still 15+ years ago.

Chickpeas don't tend to be healthy or live long, from the incidents I've seen. They rarely make it past maturity. Twisted Sister is the only exception I know of, having made it to at least 7 years of age, maybe as long as 9. They generally happen when a peacock gets on a chicken, and she lays the hybrid's egg.

Peafowl have also been known to hybridize with guinea fowl.

An elephant adapting to an insane deformity!

Rhandzekile, meaning ‘loved’ in Shangaan, was first sighted in 2009 in the Umbabat Private Nature Reserve as a young sub-adult cow. Through the years since then, people who see her have expressed shock and awe that she has kept going. Rhandzekile has a large hole below her forehead, through which she breathes. Our vets suspect that her handicap is congenital. She appears on and off in the APNR and recently was seen lactating, with a calf in tow. The hole in her forehead was recently oozing pus, and so we again called Wildlife vets to the rescue, who examined her and administered booster injections. Miraculously, only 2% of her breathing is through her trunk – the rest is via the hole in her forehead, with much audible sucking and blowing. Subsequent to this treatment she moved out of Balule Private Nature Reserve all the way down to Skukuza over the period of a month, clearly showing us that her handicap does not hold her back in anyway. in the video you can see her seemingly pouring water with her trunk into the nose hole. since elephants drink by squirting water into their mouths, i wonder if she does this to combat dryness? the inner trunk tissue is completely exposed to the sun and any dust, i'm sure it can sometimes get quite dry and bothersome..
