new face.

wandering into her second workshop, yeji’s honestly quite excited. after all, she’s not really a hip-hop person, she’s always done contemporary dance and hardly dabbled in anything else anymore. she didn’t have to, she was a contemporary major anyway, so it didn’t really make sense for her to focus her efforts anywhere else. but she wanted a little bit of fun, and of course she was excited to find that in another style. the whole freestyle thing would probably be what confused her the most about it, how someone could teach a freestyle class she wasn’t sure, but she was excited to get involved nonetheless.

while she knew she had friends taking the workshop, she hadn’t expected to see hyojeong there. maybe just because they weren’t super close, so they hadn’t told one another, but it was always nice to see someone you knew. so, yeji stepped right up to the younger girl and beamed, “ noh hyojeong, as i live and breathe, ” she says, crossing her arms over her chest. “ it’s been, what, a year or two ? ” she asks – she’s pretty sure she hasn’t seen the younger since she graduated. “ how have you been ? you’re taking this workshop, too ? ” she asks, as if it isn’t obvious they’re both taking it. after all, they’re both standing in the room, right ?

     honestly, this opportunity is a once in a lifetime sort of deal and hyojeong’s super hyped to have been chosen for it. she’s never going to stop being excited about being chosen to help out and she’s even more stoked when she sees familiar faces stepping into the area for the workshop. there’s a lot of people here who she realizes she never told she had become a trainee, and had kind of just stopped responding to messages and having had to cancel some plans. 

     “unnie!” she exclaims happily when she sees yeji, a bright smile appearing on her lips. “yeah, something like that?” she knows they had discussed meeting up to film tiktoks but they hadn’t be able to find time so far, only because of nova’s training schedule. it was a bit annoying, but hyojeong wouldn’t exchange it for the world. yeji had graduated before she even became a trainee, so the older girl never would’ve realized that she hadn’t been showing up to school or something.”i’m ... uh,” she glances back to where she can see her best friend and sehun standing, a grin flickering across her face. 

     “actually. i’m helping teach it.”

dazzle

originally, he wasn’t supposed to have time because of work; and he was under the impression that choosing to forgo the chance to sit in on a bunch of interesting workshops to run deliveries across the city was filial and upright of him. his mom, however, had different ideas, especially when he managed to let hyojeong’s name slip.

(rookie mistake. his mom probably loves hyojeong more than she loves him.) 

it’s why he’s loitering—surrounded by tempting food stalls on both side—his tote bag one pile of gently used clothes lighter and his phone flickering when it reminds him that he hasn’t replied to hyojeong’s text yet. he doesn’t have plans to. just ten minutes ago, he’d asked her out-of-the-blue where she was (their last conversation had ended with him apologizing for not being able to make it to the dance workshop). he’s pretty shitty with directions for what his job is, but it’s not too hard to spot hyojeong(’s hair) in the midst of a crowd, wandering near the entrance to the songwriting workshop.

deliberately, quietly, subin jogs toward her, footsteps slowing to an almost tiptoe when he’s just close enough to put his hands on her shoulders and—

“boo!”

to be honest, he probably doesn’t care enough about this kind of stuff to really be going out of his way to attend workshops just yet. but his mom had been insistent he get out of the restaurant (something along the lines of, don’t you want to see hyojeong?) and maybe some free time and leisure would do him some good.

(and maybe his mom was right.) 

subin grins. “surprised? hey, is it starting? we should get going!” 

+ NOH HYOJEONG

     she’s not going to deny that she’s disappointed when subin doesn’t make it to the hip-hop workshop. most of it is because she wanted to dance with him again, deeming it much too long since the last time they had had time to do that. she still needs to message him mom just to check up on things, knowing that the older woman liked her decently. 

     hah. 

     but either way, she’s a bit sad even though she has a ton of fun with sehun (!!!) and seongmin by her side. she’s still somewhat in disbelief that she had been chosen to help with a dance workshop, and even personally work with a convex member. they had spent extra time before the class working together to prepare a dance as a little thank you to everyone—which was also super fun. 

     and she was getting to spend some quality time with other convex members even if they were just teaching her things. it’s super cool. this whole thing is really cool, and well, she kind of wants to spend it with different friends. subin being one of them. 

     hyojeong also isn’t surprised at all when he doesn’t respond to her texts, just assuming he was busy or something. or working. or had somehow forgotten how to text—which wouldn’t even surprise her at all, considering he had forgotten how to get to the emoji keyboard a while ago. honestly, she doesn’t understand how he’s the older one between the two of them. 

     so when he sneaks up on her, she really does jump, not having expected him to show up. letting out a yelp of surprise and whirling around, only to hit him on the shoulder with a gasp. “you—” she doesn’t manage to say anything else, so shocked to see him standing there behind her. 

     “i thought you were busy? how did—when? what.” she pauses, gathering her thoughts before she continues blabbering like an idiot. “you suck but yeah, it’s starting,” she doesn’t wait, grabbing his wrist and tugging him in after her, bowing in greeting before stealing a seat and tugging him down beside her. 

     “wait i thought you had work?”

soobin’s still not too sure how he’d gotten hyojeong to agree to this. but somehow, he did, and he’s kind of glad he has. despite being someone who’d do anything in his power to do … nothing, he found that it was probably important that he put in some sort of effort into his art class. 

they’d decided on taking photos of someone at a garden, and soobin had reached out to hyojeong, mostly because he felt as though she’d suit the ‘vibe’ he had planned the best.

he stands at in the middle of the park, attempting to find a doable view for his project (because soobin wasn’t the kind of guy who aimed for perfection, and he thinks he never really will be, which is fine, really), when he sees her approaching. “hyojeong hey,” he waves. “thanks for coming,” he greets. “i won’t take too much of your time. just a few photos should work,” he continues, turning around to take a better look at the area he was working with.

“ah, right,” he pulls out a drink he’d kept in his bag and passes it to her. “for you. think of it as a pre-thank you gift. i’ll treat you to lunch later as an actual thank you,” he smiles.

    she’s not sure how she had ended up getting roped into this art project with soobin, but she doesn’t mind if she’s honest. modelling was never something that she had ever really had much of an interest in, but wanting to be an idol meant that she needed to do well with being comfortable on camera. and while she’s okay with being on camera when she’s dancing, and performing, she’s never tested her comfort being still in front of one.

    which is why she agreed.

    “hi!” she waves when she spots him waving and heads in that direction, feeling pretty good about this. she’s not actually sure what he has planned, but honestly? she doesn’t really care, thinking that this experience would probably be pretty fun since she’s doing it with a friend.

    “woah, i get lunch from this too?” she accepts the drink with a grin, glancing at it and then twisting the cap off to take a sip of it. she had a bag of course, had even dressed up nicer than she usually did -- no sweats in sight! -- and could store it away if needed, but she has absolutely no qualms about drinking it right now. “maybe you should ask me for favours more often.”

it’s the middle of the night when eunbin begins to toss herself around in bed in a vigorous kind of manner, the cause being that intense and incredibly annoying sound of vibrations along the surface of her nightstand being– with her phone modus on soundless she believed that she is safe from being woken up but obviously, that is effectively proven to be false as she slowly but surely is pulled back to reality. typically she doesn’t mind, having promised a handful of people that she’s always available for them, twenty-four hours a day, but tonight she wanted to sleep.

no specific reason behind that honestly, other than the undenying fact that it’s night to monday and she has early morning classes. plus, she felt like shit, if she was to be honest, as she has fully spent the weekend in front of her computer trying to master league of legends. eunbin is aware that it wasn’t particularly the best idea ever, she knows, unprepared assignments would explain that much, but it’s simply too addictive. video games, that is. not to mention the reason behind her beginning to play in the first place, to actually reach the level of her roomie, so that they can actually play together. ultimately, she was able to quit, and hit the sack around nine.

her eyes squints severely when she glances over at her beaming phone, of course she forgot to turn down the intensity before crashing onto the pillow, but the caller is unexpected. kind of, not really. sleepily she picks the device up to answer the call, immediately expressing strong frustration instead of asking what’s up. “dude. it’s 3am in the morning. what do you want??”

     whenever she has a problem, it’s always somehow randomly during witching hour. thankfully, it’s never at the exact same minute of 3am, or she might really be convinced that she’s being haunted or something. it goes with her whole ‘witchy vibes’ that she tries to give off anyhow, with her pet snake and pet kitty that she liked to think were her familiars -- if they existed. 

     anyways. 

     she hasn’t even slept yet, having somehow gotten caught up in a cycle of youtube videos and then wikipedia pages and then back to wikipedia pages. she’s absolutely going to hate herself tomorrow, but that’s a problem for future!hyojeong to worry about. she’s back on youtube though, watching dance practices for inspiration for the next few evals that she has to do. she doesn’t even know what they might be, but if there’s ever anything with dance, then she would absolutely want to be on top of it. 

     there’s a specific one that she sees though, that makes her think of a specific unnie. and without even checking what time it is, she immediately goes into her contacts to call the older girl, hoping that she would pick up. and she does. 

     “oh is it?” hyojeong rolls over and pulls the phone away from her ear, checking the time curiously. “oops,” she says, though nothing follows it. “anyways, i found this really cool choreography i thought you’d like?”

class time

this whole class thing is kind of cool. 

though to and extent it reminded doyum of the time that nova was doing all of those extra classes. he remembers those rather fondly as it had been during one of those classes he was about to talk to his idol ricky. but this time around he wasn’t just someone taking a class, he gets to help along side the instructor of the course convex oh sehun. which like is wild for doyum so he could only imagine what his best friend is going through. 

“think you’re going to be able to keep your cool during this?” he asked her, teasing as always. though he had been pretty hyped himself when he got the offer, convex isn’t one of his ults. he knew if they had ended up with someone from eclipse or luxe– or heaven forbid, per_se– that it would be doyum losing it. as it stands, he gets to poke fun at her this time around. “be kind of lame if you fangirled the whole class.”

     she’s still shaking. 

     okay, no she’s not. they had all met up after it had been announced they would be the helpers, and they had even worked together with sehun to do something special for the class. but she’s still pretty amazed at the opportunity that had arisen for her to work with not only her best friend, but also one of her favourite idols. it’s like a dream come true, and she keeps having to pinch herself to remind herself that she’s not actually dreaming. 

     “hey, i already freaked out at you after we found out,” hyojeong points out, grinning at her best friend. honestly, this is literally everything she could’ve dreamed of. and on top of that, this is technically the official reveal of her being a trainee! it’s great, though she’s pretty sure nothing will change aside from the fact that she can actually post pictures of herself in the nova practice rooms. “i’m excited to see who shows up though.”

     she knows that doing anything under the guise of practicing is a good one, and she knows that she’s decently good at this, if anything from practice with her best friend. though, perhaps it’s because she knew doyum so well that it was easy to see that something that was wrong with him. with taeyang though, it’s mostly from being in close proximity and having known the older trainee for a while now. since the other had joined, and they had been decently close since then, because of their shared love of dance. 

     “yeah i was going to keep you company,” hyojeong says simply, opening the can she’s holding and she offers him the other one as she takes a sip of it. she was also planning to stay anyway, but considering they’re on the same team for the eval this month, she thought it would be good to kill two birds with one stone: practice the chaser with a team member as well as figure out what’s going on with someone she considered a friend. 

     “but i wanted to go over the chorus part again, so,” she adds after a moment and she smiles at him, knowing he used to be a dance teacher. “even if you don’t want to tell me what’s going on, we can pretend i know and then we can practice together, okay?”
