Stan, did you bought special glasses for the Solar Eclipse? Remember that watching the sun directly can damage your eyesight.

Ford actually made some for everyone!

Here are some pictures from our hiking trip. I took the kids on the same hike through the Gravity Falls wilderness that Fiddleford and I used to do in our prime. Shame about the clear cutting….back in the 70s, it was greenery as far as you could see with no unsightly interruptions.

Dipper took these photos, by the way. He knows I’m not good with digital cameras and asked to borrow it to record the journey. I took one photo, but it didn’t turn out. I’ll post it anyway for posterity:

I apologize for being away for the week. We spontaneously went off the grid for a camping trip.

So how was Fathers Day? Soos do anything?

Avatar

It was nice! And yeah actually, Soos being the softie heomet is, couldn’t help doing something and bought me my favorite beer which we drank on the porch and caught up. He was really excited to tell me about great the Shack is holding up and his ideas for new attractions.

Stan, did you knew today is Summerween?

Of course! I never forget. Summerween is new to Ford so the kids and I are easing him into it with some Jack-O-Melons and good candy.

I showed Dipper and Mabel the things that we found in storage the other day, and they said that when people on Tumbler have some junk they don’t want, they make a “giveaway post”. Somehow through this post, I will chose someone to give these things to! Dipper and Mabel are helping immensely with this process. A few of the items are mine, some are from @stanblogs, and Soos wanted to throw in a few things from the gift shop as well.

Here’s what’s included:

  • A phony copy of my journal; stolen, published and sold by a Mister Alex Hirsch. Stan bought 20 copies just to annoy me.
  • My old glasses. Apparently Stan held on to these for 30 years while I was gone, but now the prescription is useless and they’re too small for my head.
  • An embarrassing crystal pyramid…I thought I’d smashed all these but they keep popping back up. Like weeds.
  • Two deer teeth. Don’t ask.
  • One of my many dice sets. They’re quite pretty, but my collection is too big and I only ever use my luckiest set.
  • Stanley’s old card deck. There are slight differences in the back of the cards that he has memorized and used to cheat. There’s an extra Queen of Hearts in there too.
  • A magic 8 ball; the original inspiration for Mr. Mystery’s iconic cane.
  • One of the blue Pine hats from the gift shop. Dipper took quite a shine to one of these the summer that I met him.
  • A Mystery Shack bumper sticker from the gift shop.
  • A few Gravity Falls postcards from the gift shop.

We might throw in a few more treats as well. Mabel handed me a list of things I should write as rules:

  1. Likes and Re-Blogs count as entries. Only one Re-Blog will be counted.
  2. No “giveaway blogs”
  3. The winner will be chosen by a random number generator
  4. US entries only please, international shipping is expensive and as much as we’d like, we can’t deliver in the Stan O’ War.

Also, personally I would prefer that only people who do not currently own a copy of my journal enter, but apparently the thing took the world by storm and now it’s everywhere…so if you win and you already have a copy, please give it to a friend or family member that would make good use of it. You can keep everything else.

We will chose a winner two weeks from now, on July 3rd. Good luck!

Hey hey! I know I’m not known for giving away stuff for free, but we figured we could make use of some old items for you folks. You’ve been real nice.

I’ve thrown in some of my old lucky cards and some fun stuff from the Shack! Step right up and test your luck!

Dipper and Mabel arrived safely! They’re up in the attic putting their things away. My posts might be sparse in the next few days; I am excited to spend time with them again.

Sadly there's a lot of people that think girls can't be scientists. Have you ever worried Mabel might think she's not smart enough for science? She seems like she could be well-suited for psychology, sociology, or zoology. Has she ever shown an interest in a scientific field, or do you think she might develop one?

Avatar

That’s a load of nonsense. Many of my brightest peers in school were women, and they went on to reach much greater success and achievement than me. The idea that men are naturally more gifted in math and science is nothing but a self fulfilling prophecy based on misogyny and male self importance.

As for Mabel, she knows that whatever path she finds herself, she’ll find nothing but support from her family. I think it’s also worth mentioning the preconceived notion that math and science are inherently more important or valuable than the arts. Mabel has some real skill and amazing creativity! She sculpted a nearly realistic full body wax sculpture of Stanley when she was 12 and put on a huge, multiple act musical puppet show in the span of a week. Her scrapbook is a work of art in and of itself.

As far as I can tell, she doesn’t have much interest in math or science, and that’s perfectly fine. If she had the passion for it and she put her heart into it, I’m sure she would excel in science, and do some fantastic things. Possibly even change the world. But as it stands, she loves drawing, sculpture, arts and crafts. And I’m positive she will excel in that and change the world just the same, and we will all be very proud of her no matter what.

Speaking of storage, Stan and I found some interesting items. Honestly, I thought we’d already gotten rid of some of these things. Probably threw them in the the bottomless pit, didn’t we? Figures that they would be back.

I was also surprised to see one of my journals in storage; not the original that we discarded mind you, but one of that Alex Hirsch’s phony copies. Apparently, Stanley bought multiple copies last year and hid them around the Shack, just to annoy me. This thing is basically worthless but, maybe someone would get some enjoyment out of it? I need a better way to dispose of things than the bottomless pit.

Happy Birthday! Are you gonna celebrate with Ford and the kids?

Avatar

Mabel will probably throw us a real party with a cake and hats and everything. We’ll just be happy to be with them when they get back, probably tell them about what we’ve been up to.Excluding last night, of course.

Woof... you know it was a good birthday when it's nearly noon and you're still recovering
