Another woman utterly failed by our society’s devaluation of women’s reproductive health. We can’t wait around for male doctors to decide what we need to know. This is why we need to take control and educate ourselves about our own bodies.

This is news to me so let’s share it so people will know!

Gross tmi: but i passed a pretty big clot after having my daughter. It was about the size of a baseball. It actually hurt worse because while 15 hours of labor opened my cervix, i passed the clot in 30 minutes. I knew it was a possibility because of my midwife and reading, but everyone Ive told after this (mostly other pregnant women) were shocked that this could happen.

In our culture, it’s much more common to do deep research about what family cars we want to buy than we do about childbirth when we ’re pregnant.

Tmi: I passed a huge clot after birth in the bathroom of my hospital room and called the nurse sobbing because I didn’t know it was normal. She treated me like an idiot, but NO ONE told me it was a possibility. And the pain associated with healing for the first couple of weeks after birth was worse than the labor imo. Again, I had no idea. They didn’t tell me a thing besides “sitz bath regularly and change your pads.” Before discharging me from the hospital.

I was most definitely told about this in school. Fucking hell, 4-6 weeks of bleeding? My periods were/are bad enough, why the hell don’t we get told this?

I didn’t know it could last so long, wtf? Is the bleeding inevitable after birth? 

Bleeding is inevitable after birth - your uterine wall is shedding a fuck ton of lining. It can last from three to six weeks (possible longer) and it tapers off.

More TMI - I passed a MASSIVE clot after my fourth birth. At this point I already knew this could happen - it’s normal. What I DIDN’T know, was that I had caused it.

My post birth contractions were so bad after the birth that it felt like full transition labor. And they don’t give you anything for the pain. So I used a hot water bottle, without the nurses knowing, and it caused me to bleed even more. I lost so much blood that by the first time they sat me up to go to the bathroom, I fainted. It took three more tries until I could sit up.

Anyway, that’s not the point. The point is, the next morning I passed a clot the SIZE OF ANOTHER PLACENTA I KID YOU NOT, and I know what is and is not normal. So I called for the nurse and through the door told her I had passed a huge clot, and her response was - “It’s not big. I know what big is.” She hadn’t even looked. So I rolled my eyes and said, “Yeah, no. It’s big, I’m telling you.”

So, sounding extremely put upon, she asked me to open the door. I did, and after a long pause she goes, “Okay, yeah, that’s a little big.”

YOU DON’T SAY.

The point I’m trying to get across is that this shit is so common - women not knowing this stuff is so expected, and it keeps getting reinforced. People don’t expect you to know anything, don’t teach you anything, and then make you feel like you’re totally ignorant and a burden for your lack of knowledge when THEY WON’T SHARE.

Fucking learn EVERYTHING you can when it comes to childbirth, girls. It is the single most empowering thing you can do for yourself. And if you missed something, that’s okay. But the more knowledge you arm yourself with, the more in control of your situation you’ll be.

A few post partum tips:

This is just a few things, but PLEASE feel free to send me an ask if you have any questions about ANYTHING childbirth/pregnancy/nursing related. I have four incredible kids. I’ve done it all - c-section, vacuume birth, episiotimy, stitches, with an epidural, without an epidural. I’m here.

300% EXTRA SURE I’M NOT HAVING BABIES. 

peri bottles, witch hazel or anti-pain anticeptic spray are your friends. Also passing large clots after birth is a WARNING SIGN. Bigger than a half dollar is a sign that you have not passed your entire placenta (this is most common in hospital vaginal births where the mother is not allowed to naturally birth the placenta and instead has it ripped out by the doctor) if there is any placenta left in your uterus you can get extremely ill. This happened to both myself and my mother in law

WOW I didn’t know any of this and I’m terrified of what more I’m unaware of about my own body :( Honestly when will we fucking abolish this taboo about the female body…

I had pretty great sex ed in school (lots of contraceptive information, and totally acknowledged that teenagers might have sex) and all of this is news to me.

And, as a 28-year-old person with a uterus, I’m extremely appalled I’m just learning this.

Long, but very important information, even for those who don’t plan to have children, because you will almost certainly know someone who will, and you might be able to to help them. Or at least increase your level of empathy for them.

nani was NINETEEN and such a fucking badass who was so protective of lilo and just ROLLED with aliens being a thing towards the end of the movie. #1 Disney relative of all time.

I have honestly been waiting AGES for the right gifset to express the wonderful perfection that is Nani. She is not only protective of Lilo, she respects the way Lilo’s imagination and quirkiness works.

Pudge the fish got a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday. Nani does not argue the logic of feeding him, only suggests an alternative sandwich when they are out of peanut butter. Lilo was allowed to take as many photos of whatever mundane or odd subjects as she wanted and Nani would get them developed. Nani recognized what were important habits for Lilo.

When Lilo asks for a pet lobster, Nani does not tell her that lobsters are not pets. She tells her, “We don’t have a lobster door, we have a dog door.” She makes sure the woman at the pound does not tell Lilo that “Stitch is not a real name”.

NANI SPENDS THE ENTIRE MOVIE MAKING SURE THAT LILO NEVER FEELS LIKE HER IDEAS ARE WRONG.

The only time we truly see Nani get angry with Lilo is when she is scared of Lilo being taken away. Nani spends the entire movie stressed out over taking care of her sister, trying to find a job, trying to make sure her sister has a friend, and yet she is always willing to put that extra effort, over and over again, to make sure that Lilo always believes that anything is possible.

This is a great moment because she probably *remembered* that Lilo said this once. And you know what? Shes not ending this day by letting her little sister think this is her fault. She’s not having an easy time trying to be a parent, but she knows none of this is her sisters fault, and shes not going to let her think it is. 

And half of her terror of losing Lilo isnt even just losing her family; its knowing that wherever Lilo goes, they won’t know how to do these things. They won’t understand her. 

What a good movie. 

Casual reminder that the reason Lilo obsessively feeds the fish is because her parents died in a rainstorm and she firmly believes Pudge controls the weather. If you pay attention to the feeding sequence you will notice that storm clouds recede and dissipate, a visual narrative that confirms this.

It’s not just a habit. It’s a very real part of Lilo’s healing process and Nani understands that.

Also if you pay attention to Nani’s room you’ll notice she had surfing posters and trophies. She was very much on her way to being a pro surfer but had to give it up to become the adult Lilo needed her to be.

And not ONCE does Nani show her sister any resentment. It’s worth it to keep her family together. This is a young woman who is willing to sacrifice all of her dreams and make incredibly grown up decisions.

What I am saying is Nani is the best disney princess of all time. Disney Queen even.

Sorry, but without Castiel there wouldn’t even be an Earth to protect, in case you forgot, it was because Cas took in the souls of purgatory that he was able to kill Raphael and stop him from kick starting another apocalypse, or did you forget that? 

I do agree that Castiel did some shitty things along the way to do this, being so driven to stop the world from ending that he did break Sam’s wall with the promise of restoring it. And after he was ‘killed’ by leviathan and found again in season 7, he tried to make amends and took on Sam’s hallucinations in order for him to heal. And he was forgiven for what he did. 

If you want piss poor reasons to blame Cas for things then why don’t you blame Dean for taking on a demon deal in season 2 to save Sam that inevitably gets him a ticket to hell and breaking the first seal to opening Lucifers cage in the first place? And lets thank Sam for not listening to Dean’s warnings about Ruby and him letting Lucifer out of the cage and starting the apocalypse. 

Originally, the end of the world had started with both Dean and Sam. Have you even been paying attention to this show?

Let’s not forget that Cas was essential in stopping Lucifer in season 5 too. He got Dean out of hell to begin with, he brought them back to the past to save their parents from Anna killing them, he cut off pestilence’s ring which enabled them to open the cage, he then threw holy fire at Michael at the cost of his life which enabled Dean to get Sam back in control at which point Sam jumped into the pit, ending the apocalypse. 

Is this starting to put together the pieces for you? It’s not just about Sam and Dean anymore, it hasn’t been just about them since season 5. Cas isn’t perfect, neither is Sam or Dean, so why only include them to be protectors of Earth when without Cas, Sam and Dean would never have gotten this far to begin with. That’s why there’s Team Free Will. That’s why Castiel is considered family to both of them. 

That is why Castiel isn’t expendable and is just as important. And why Cas deserves more recognition. So please don’t hijack my gifset with your silly hypocritical reasons as to why Cas shouldn’t have been given a line here, if you want to get that petty, then Sam and Dean shouldn’t have been mentioned at all either.

we opened at 11 this morning. i watched an old man literally pry the fucking sliding doors open at 10:43 and stand there just staring into the empty store and my coworker & i were like sir. for the love of fuck

I worked in a restaurant for while and a woman climbed past an A board sign, ignored the sign on a the door saying the opening times and trotted on in. When told we were not open she asked why the door was unlocked. My manager explained that it has to be unlocked when people are in the building to comply with fire regulations. Which lead to my favourite exchange with a customer: Woman: But there are no people in here. Manager: Madam. The staff count as people. Woman: That’s ridiculous. *Storms out*

When I worked at McDonald's I had a lady come up and ramble out her (long) order while on the phone and saying add this to this burger hold this on that one I then proceeded to repeat her order to her to assure that I had everything correct and she kept interrupting so on the 3rd time of me repeating her order she told me to just ring it up as is. She went to fill her drinks and when she came back for her order and looked thru it she says Costumer- where's my pretzel? Me- ma'am I didn't ring you up for a pretzel. But they're 2.15 if you'd like u can ring it up right now Costumer- well I ordered a pretzel you need to learn how to listen Me- ma'am I repeated your order to you 3 times and you told me to ring it up AS IS. She then kept arguing on how we can't even do our job right, that we need to go back to school, and who knows what else as I had gone to the back of the store and let my manager deal with her. (All this, and she was STILL on her phone smh)

Another time a guy had ordered his food to go. Came back a while later with his order stating that when he got home his food was cold and wanted us to remake it. (mentioning where in the area he lived which is about 3 miles away when there's another mcds closer to his house) Manager- sir that's pretty far of course your food is going to be cold.(since there always traffic it probably took longer to get home) Costumer- *still demanding we remake his food* Manager- *arguing that we're not going to remake his food beause it was a long drive to his house and there was a closer one he could of stopped at* So in the end we ended up redoing his order.

Then when I worked in academy ppl always came in like 5 mins before closing and would just walk around looking at stuff and we would make the announcement thru the speaker every 10 mins then every 5 mins that the store was now closed and to make your final purchase and ppl still didn't listen. We literally had to follow one costomer around till he got the message and left.

Ppl are so fuking dumb, disrespectful, and so full of themselves, and that's NEVER going to change.

Remember that time when Pence made a last minute decision to not sign an application for a grant that would have made preschool in Indiana more accessible and help fix our crumbling infrastructure?

Remember that stern letter that a bunch of big businesses in Indiana wrote to Pence because he signed a law that was discouraging business from both within and without the state of Indiana?

Oh, and that time that Pence caused an HIV outbreak in rural Indiana because the only clinic that did HIV testing was a Planned Parenthood and his fixation on defunding reproductive rights caused it to close- even though that particular clinic didn’t even offer abortion services?

And then there’s the “Pence Must Go” signs all over central Indiana…

And who could forget the time that he planned on using taxpayer dollars to fund a news outlet because he couldn’t control the negative image surrounding him from the press.

What about the time that the FEC had to rewrite laws to prevent challenging candidates from using campaign funds for personal use because Mike Pence used 30% of his campaign funds on mortgage payments and golf tournaments?

And who else remembers when they were giving states a chance to individually tailor their Clean Energy laws to fit the needs of the state and Pence just said ‘no’ and didn’t offer any alternative?

Hey, what about that time that Pence stated that condoms were ‘too modern’ of a solution to HIV and STI prevention and that abstinence was the best choice?

Remember also that 49% of pregnancies in Indiana are unintended, and that out of 1000 teenagers, an average of 49 will become pregnant before they age of 19. And that STI cases have reached record rates for the state of Indiana.

Oh! Remember when Pence went against the advice of legal professionals and signed a good number of laws that mean that you are classified as a drug dealer (whether proven or not) if you are found with a certain quantity of drugs in your possession, and increased the minimum sentence to ten years- even when it was argued by many legal sources that the best way to combat drug use is rehabilitation and not incarceration?

How about the time that he campaigned heavily against raising the minimum wage to match neighboring states, even though an overwhelming majority of Hoosiers polled said that they support a $9/hr wage and approximately 93000 residents of the state bring home less than $300 a week?

Or that time he stripped the office of state superintended of all its meaningful power because he didn’t like who won.  (More.)

Of course, I thought that it needed no mention, but who could ever forget the national embarrassment that was the RFRA laws, which allowed business-owners to refuse service to people if they felt ‘religiously burdened,’ which essentially boiled down to discriminating people who are part of the LGBTQ community. 

And you know I’d love to rant about Mike Pence all day long, but for those of you who want a more comprehensive list of how incompetent he’s been as our governor, this one sums it up pretty nicely and has sources! 

Oh, but don’t take my word for it: here’s another masterpost of all this and more. 

And just in case you thought he was done being awful- how about the time that Pence and Trump made a visit to Louisiana despite the fact that politicians were asked NOT to visit the flooded areas for essentially photo ops because its a further strain on resources? Meanwhile, South Bend IN is currently experiencing a flood where a visit would not be a negative impact the resources, but a photo op in Baton Rouge is more important somehow. 

Also seemingly less important than an unwelcome photo op is the soil in East Chicago, IN- which has a lead content 30 times what is considered unsafe levels for children to be in contact with. This comes from a man whose initial decision not to run for President was based on his ‘need to focus on his home state.’ 

Of course, everyone remembers how the RFRA, a law that was written in the spirit of LGBTQ discrimination, was strongly protested but signed anyway. No one could have possibly guessed that people would try to use it to justify child abuse- except for literally every person who protested. 

But to put a little more levity in this post, Purvi Patel’s sentence of feticide has been reduced to ‘child neglect’ and she’s out of jail. So that’s good news! 

Of course, injustices like these haven’t stopped radical anti-choice laws from being signed in during the entire run of the controversy. 

Remember how he opposed the Matt Shepard Hate Crimes Act??? (I can’t add a link bc I’m on mobile but this is true)

“The president has used his position as commander in chief to advance a radical social agenda, when he should have used it to advance legislation that would unequivocally support our troops.” Because, you know… these things actually correlate. His complaint was also that this would curb freedom of speech.

Let us remember that the Matt Shepard Hate Crimes Act is simply: Conceived as a response to the murders of Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., the measure expands the 1969 United States federal hate crime law to include crimes motivated by a victim’s actual or perceived gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability.

So we can reasonably deduce here that our fluffy Q-tip of a Vice President thinks that the literal murder of people based on their gender identity, disability, and sexual orientation is okay under the First Amendment.

What about the time he made same-sex couples applying for marriage licenses into a felony, punishable up to 18 months in jail and a $10,000 fine, because that’s how you get supervillain street cred.

That last bullet-point basically means it was publicly part of his agenda to take money from HIV-related programs and put it towards conversion therapy, which is scientifically proven to not work- and result more in PTSD related conditions and most often suicide. All leading medical professionals say 0/10, do not recommend. 

And that was over a decade ago. But Pence still refuses to answer questions about his stance on the subject of gay conversion therapy. 

Spread this around, the man is a monster 

Pence is a monster.
