Martin is one of my top favorite artists! He is not well known as some star (except for dance community, and Ibiza of course), but he is very well played here on radio in Europe.

This is not the first time he sings on the song, he's been doing that once in a while. Check “Intoxicated”- it was a big hit in europe few years ago, love it. Another favorite of mine - “The night out”. The music video is also super fun with fellow dj’s Zedd, Dillon Francis, A-Trak, LaidBack Luke acting in it.

I don’t mind Aarika! I was indifferent about her back in the days, but she really grew on me. She’s good for Calvin. And she’s sooo gorgeous - who can beat that?! For me this is really THE time to be his fan. Calvin is putting awesome house music. With hottest uk artists. Back to Ibiza, playing soccer - literally everything that I ever wished for came true this summer. Enjoying it.. quietly.

In my very personal opinion, whenever Martin touches vocals the songs are just meh. And this is just another ordinary pop meets edm song. The girl has amazing voice, but the melodies aren’t there, there is nothing catchy or interesting, nothing to remember in chorus or drop.

If Calvin was being flippant when he replied w/ a brisk “10″, too bad. Billboard is calling him on it now. Unless his team issues a correction, he’s committed to do it or look like he failed to meet his goals. Grow that beard, baby, if that’s what you need to focus your energy on your career. Your fans need more music.

In 2015 he said 6, we got like 2 + old releases from the album. Last year 4/8. Hey, if we get 5/10 songs this year… 5 is a lot! Can’t complain! =D

I don’t think he was serious with that answer. Just the usual: there probably are 10 projects he finished or is seriously working on, but who knows how they will turn out. I’m also under impression that there are a lot of songs that he is giving away to other artist to put those on their albums. Like stuff for John, for Big Sean, possibly for Ellie, that girl Jessie. And he can’t really control when/how/if those will be released.

Yes, he was probably just joking but that’s aggravating & he ought to get needled about it. Five is NOT A LOT compared to his level of productivity prior to 2015 when he was averaging 10.875 songs per year since 2006. 

Also if I were Jessie Reyes, I wouldn’t hold back a Calvin song for an album when I could drop a single & benefit from his name recognition. And on these collab deals, doesn’t he usually give one to get one for himself? 

I dunno. I just need new music… badly.

As for the giving songs away - besides everything else, I think a lot of depends on what kind of song it is. Like if it is a dance song, most likely he will put it on his own name. But if it is something into pop or some other genre, he is very likely to give it away. Because as a producer and songwriter, he wants his songs to perform the best they can and to reach the right public. So if he can’t perform them in club, while those could potentially be amazing in live concerts - it’s a “give away” material. So because it seems that he was experimenting a lot with sound and different genres, I think he will give away some of them. Moreover, he is in “dept” with quite a lot of artist with “you give me vocals, I give you sound”. But of course i could be wrong. It even could be an album (it could be just EP, not LP).

haha, nobody out there likes the song. I think it’s nice, definitely catchy, very “Major Lazer - feel good - Caribbean sound - summer” song. Like even if I didn’t knew who’s song it is, I’d probably guess Major Lazer.  The only thing I don’t like is Nicki, her vocals are totally unnecessary there (to me). I can’t say I’m a fan of her voice or singing in general... so IDK  what to expect from Calvin’s colab with he (if it will come out one day) ;)

I made a decision early on that my history would be based on factual evidence about Calvin Harris & I wouldn’t get into the private love life of Adam Wiles. I made this choice mainly because I found very little information about Sophie. I also didn’t want to cover his bitter breakup w/ Rita & ultimately wanted to avoid entering Tayvin territory.

But it’s hard to get thru 2013-15 & disregard Rita. Good Lawd, the woman ran her mouth about Calvin every chance she got. I swear almost every time they got papped, she batted her lashes up at him, said, “kiss me”, & he gave her a sweet smooch on the lips. In interviews, Calvin referred to her as his “missus” & outright stated, “I love her,” on the Brit’s Red Carpet in 2014. All of this is documented in video interviews—his & hers, numerous candids, & Rita’s interviews w/ legitimate publications. They were far more public about their feelings for each other than Tayvin was.

I could compile links for an Addendum. Or I can make the case that Rita enhanced his career! Before he took off his shirt on the set of the “Summer” MV, long before he showed off his body in Armani ads, Rita promoted him as a sex symbol. Her opinion mattered because she was already a darling on gossip sites because of her notorious affairs. Plainly stated, she was an overtly sexy fame-whore before they hooked up. When she gushed that Calvin was so incredible she was in love for the first time in her life, the gossips knew exactly what she meant. Not one to leave it to anyone’s imagination, Rita later described him as “six foot sex” & their love affair as a “sex fantasy”. She built his reputation as a great lover. Women turned out at clubs just to see his hotness & expanded his career as a DJ. Maybe Armani wouldn’t have been interested in him if she hadn’t blabbed…

Calvin wasn’t the first DJ to cooperate with fashion houses. Tiesto, Guetta had done stuff way before him. Closely before Calvin’s Armani campaign, Tiesto had Guess campaign, Guetta had Tag Heuer, Avicii had Ralph Lauren. So Dj’s were already a trend. Considering Calvin’s music success in those years and his “blossoming” physique, it was just natural someone offered him a contract. I don’t even think it was the only offer he had…. 

The only difference between Calvin and other’s - just like with everything that he does - Calvin found a way to make his campaign more impactful - going for underwear instead of just - say - clothing or accessories. It instantly gave him a lot of attention - Armani underwear has always been one of the biggest “it” things for male celebs. 

As for his career success in general - I think for this one you need to remember overall music trends. Calvin’s music and paycheck went sky height together with the whole genre. A lot (most, actually) of other artists had huge growth in those years too. Why such a lead by him? I guess every bit counted. But I wouldn’t put there too much on Rita. Because Rita could have made some significant impact in UK  only, where Calvin was already no stranger anyway. His incomparable success was probably meant by series of right business and music decisions made by both Calvin and his team. Things like:

- applying radio song format to his songs, thus making sure that his songs are as general pubic friendly as dance music can be - using famous collaborations  - for example someone like Avicii doesn’t include “.feat” (business decision), which does limit him with collaborations in a way - moving closer to Vegas just in right time - most of the top edm artist of that time were not residing in LA - thus being closer to both vegas and other celeb singers and important people in industry - and - especially - focusing on Vegas just in the right time - again, many artist toured or tried to balance ibiza/miami/worldwide festivals. Calvin put Vegas first - just in right time. And that ended with the most lucrative DJ contract.

Oh, I can’t answer this.... ;) As I said, I don’t think Rita had direct impact on Calvin’s career. But she did impact his character and is a big part of “our” knowledge about him, as you said - that’s for sure. Thus she would probably fall as “side story... “
