Since S5 speculation is what we’re doing these days, here’s my fervent hopes that Cat Noir’s identity will remain secret until way late in the game and that he turns out to be the kingpin in whatever will be going down between Gabriel and Felix and Ladybug. 

Even though he probably didn’t want to, Felix entered the war between Gabe and LB and he will have to be involved somehow if they’re going to take that sentimonster thing in any meaningful direction. He knows that LB knows that he stole the miraculous, but what he doesn’t know is that Adrien knows this, too. (in a universe where people had brain cells he’d probably expect her to pop by the wrong boy to pick up Barkk again, but this is Miraculous we’re talking about)

Gabriel knows that Felix got his hand on the dog miraculous while disguised as Adrien. In a universe where people had brain cells he’d probably deduce that Adrien is on Ladybug’s extra hero list, but this is still Miraculous we’re talking about.

Adrien knows that Felix impersonated him to betray Ladybug and help Hawkmoth, but not why. And that’s where this becomes delightful: While this is obviously Cat Noir’s battle to win, the thing that no-one else involved but Plagg knows is that Adrien is the one who’s sitting on the insider info here. Adrien doesn’t know why Felix is helping the supervillain, but he’s in a completely different position than Cat Noir is for trying to figure that out thanks to the “family member I’ve loved my entire life” part of the picture. I’m not holding out hope for some great ladrien scheeming in S5, but Adrien actively pursuing answers to the Felix riddle independent of Ladybug is probably even better. And Felix might be willing to spill things to Adrien that will absolutely change the combat theatre, because Felix will be as ignorant as everyone that that is Cat Noir he’s telling those things. 

Adrien’s dual involvement as the victim of Felix’ and Gabriel’s bargain AND as Ladybug’s right hand - where all of the others believe him to be completely ignorant - means that he’ll be in a place where he’s forced into becoming a part of this battle on a separate track in addition to whatever Ladybug’s plans are.

I want Cat Noir to be the actor who decides the outcome of that inevitable showdown, by his unique position to all of the others. This’ll mean that his identity will be blown the moment he’s acting on all those things he’s not supposed to know. Because there are very few things I want mora than to see everyone else who thought that Adrien and CN was just the clueless prettyboy - Marinette included - to get their perceptions of him turned upside down and to be all

Imagine setting all of this up and then make recurring conflict of the season be about taking down the mean girls in school while Adrien’s only contribution to the story is simping for Marinette instead of Ladybug now

I have this headcannon that the moment Nico realized his feelings for Percy was on Olympus when Percy calls him out by name in front of the Gods (and especially Hades) as a hero who deserves more recognition. I think that’s really what got him. Percy doesn’t praise anyone else by name in that speech, not even Annabeth, and this is right after Nico betrayed him and genuinely thought he had ruined their friendship forever. His brain would have broken I know it.

(Of course immediately after that Percy and Annabeth have the greatest underwater kiss of all time in front of the entire camp, probably including Nico. No wonder he leaves camp in such a hurry. Honestly it would make the complete 180 his attitude towards Percy takes in HOO make sense, like he goes from always excited to see him to barely making eye contact. Nico saved the world, fell in love, and got his heart broken all in one day)
