Paul McCartney and I first met at that party. We shook hands amid a huge crowd of people, and he said, “You know, I’ve written a song for you.” I was very surprised and thanked him, and he started singing ‘Girlfriend’ to me at this party.” Michael Jackson.

“We would occasionally get stoned on the way to the film set. My main memory is of being in hysterics because for all of us, one of the great things about early pot was the sheer hysteria— the laughs. Things could appear very very funny, hilariously so. And nobody quite knew why we were laughing, and of course this made it even funnier. It was like little kids giggling at the dinner table.” — Paul McCartney, memories of the ‘Help’ set, 1994.

📝 facts about Paul McCartney songs: “Ode To A Koala Bear” (Pipes Of Peace - reissue) by Paul McCartney, 1983.

Ode To A Koala Bear’ was the b-side of the ‘Say Say Say’ single released by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson.

The song is a solo McCartney production and was recorded in December 1980, during the ‘Tug Of War’ sessions and completed in 1981.

The basic track was recorded on 8th December, the day John Lennon was murdered in New York City, making the song the last Paul recorded while John was still alive.

Paul McCartney told Paul Robinson (the drummer) that this song was about one of his kids’ toys.

“We put the track down with Paul playing piano, me on kit. We left the studio that evening at about 9pm, so I think that meant 4pm New York time. It was the same day John was killed. So, it may be a touch gruesome.” — Paul Robinson, the drummer of the session.

“It was such a shock to see him (Paul McCartney) the following day in the same clothes he had been wearing the previous day talking to the press about John’s murder.” — Paul Robinson, the drummer of the session.
