A Vancouver police sergeant who also taught at B.C. universities has admitted to allegations of discreditable conduct related to unsolicited sexualized messages he sent to fellow officers and female students. Sgt. Keiron McConnell, a high-ranking veteran officer with the department’s gang crime unit, is the subject of a public hearing called by the Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner after multiple women made complaints about his conduct that dates back several years. The hearing was told that McConnell sent unwanted sexualized communications to students and fellow officers, including inquiring about the colour of their underwear and their sexual preferences.

I plan to vote for the first time in the upcoming federal election, but I live in a very anti-voting household. As in, they throw out the voter cards every year. I know how to vote, but I don't know anything about who I'm voting for. Where do I go for information on the parties that are running?

A message from Ontario teachers and retirees:
In December, Ontario teachers and retirees found out that our pensions are being invested in weapons manufacturers who directly contribute to and profit from Israel’s attacks on Palestinians in Gaza.
As educators we are horrified that our deferred salary is invested in corporations directly complicit in Israel’s genocidal violence in Gaza. This goes against everything we stand for as teachers, who dedicate our professional lives to the care and well being of children, and building a just and peaceful future for all.
Over the past three months, hundreds of us got in touch with pension plan leadership, but they refused to speak with any of us.
So last night we showed up to their annual meeting and became impossible to ignore.
We refuse to be complicit in the murder of more than 13 thousand children, hundreds of our Palestinian teacher colleagues, and the destruction of more than 70% of Gaza’s educational infrastructure.
We demand that the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan immediately divest from all companies producing the machinery of mass death, and impose a screen on all investments to exclude any companies manufacturing weapons or military components.
We expect our leaders in the Ontario Teachers Federation uphold their duty to advocate for a teaching profession that refuses complicity with genocide.
Are you a teacher who wants to make sure your pension isn’t invested in corporations directly complicit in Israel’s genocidal violence in Gaza? Take action with us at worldbeyondwar.org/otpp
We’re just getting started.

The Sunshine House, a Winnipeg based community drop-in and resource center focused on social inclusion and harm reductions, posted the following to their facebook page April 10, 2025:

Remember how we were doing a lot of hiring over the winter? Well, what we were staffing was… a whole entire transitional residence for 2SLGBTQIA+ community members exiting encampments/houselessness. Wild, right? We purchased a building, and it’s now a place where people can come stay and get the supports they need to transition into stable housing. It’s called Kelly’s Corner, in honour of Kelly Houle, our Two-Spirit elder who passed last February. We’ve been keeping it pretty quiet, because a big to-do might compromise our ability to develop and establish this important program in a climate of intensified homophobia and transphobia. And now, just two weeks after opening, all beds at Kelly’s are full! It feels good to be up and running with this project, expanding our Zaagi-Too-Wad program that addresses housing concerns facing 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Winnipeg. Want to celebrate the creation of Kelly’s Corner? You’re invited to Sponsor a Plant! The Kelly’s Corner building has lots of windows and natural light, so we had the idea to fill it with lots of living PLANTS! And then we had the idea to invite our supporters to Sponsor a Plant. Donate $50, $100, $250 or $500 and we will install a new houseplant at Kelly’s and tag it with the dedication name of your choosing. The rest of the money will go toward stocking the pantries at Sunshine House and Kelly’s Corner, since now we have two kitchens to run! Liberal Leader Mark Carney laid out his party's public safety plan on Thursday, promising to crack down on gangs, protect children, reduce intimate partner violence and tackle the illegal flow of drugs and guns coming from the United States.  "Tariffs are not the only American policies that are threatening our economy and our society. They're also threatening the safety of our communities," Carney said during a campaign stop in Brampton, Ont. "Criminals are taking advantage of irresponsible American gun laws, and their weak border enforcement, to bring illegal guns into Canada." Carney also said large U.S.-based online platforms have become "seas of racism, misogyny, antisemitism, Islamophobia and hate in all its forms" and that those platforms are being used by criminals to harm Canadians, especially children.

Should the Vancouver Island cities of Victoria and Saanich amalgamate? It’s a question that will likely be on the ballot for voters during the 2026 municipal election. That’s after a citizens’ assembly formally recommended the merger following eight months of study and dozens of hours of deliberation. “They weighed lots of concerns, lots of different issues – but ultimately, were persuaded that the two communities could be stronger together because amalgamation would allow them to plan for the future,” said Peter MacLeod, chair of the Victoria Saanich Citizens Assembly on Municipal Amalgamation.
With more Canadians opting for local vacations amid ongoing trade tensions with the United States, Liberal Leader Mark Carney has introduced a “Canada Strong Pass,” calling it a way to make it easier for families and young people to explore the country this summer. Carney announced the initiative Saturday, saying that with U.S. President Donald Trump “threatening our economy and sovereignty, Canadians are uniting to find new ways to discover and celebrate our beautiful country.” “Whether it’s trips to national parks and historic sites, spending the day at a national art gallery or museum, or hiking Canadian trails, my new government will help the next generation discover all Canada has to offer this summer,” the release said. The Canada Strong Pass will let kids and teens under 18 get into national galleries and museums for free and ride VIA Rail at no cost when they’re travelling with their parents, the announcement said.

Well then there goes my Aishe I guess if we seperate from Canada. I definitely wouldn’t want too

Alberta’s government is taking another step toward giving municipalities the option of ditching the RCMP in favour of a new provincial police service. Public Safety Minister Mike Ellis says an independent Alberta service could step in to help address concerns he’s heard about the Mounties’ staffing shortages and rising costs. If passed, the proposed Bill 49 containing amendments to the public safety act would mean a new agency must operate under a Crown corporation that would be at arm’s length from the government.

So when Trump quiets down about America, then suddenly some Canadians are preferring fascism to nationalism? Jesus
