it’s a leisurely sunday, the sun is up, the humidity is high. it’s typical summer weather in seoul, not dissimilar to the summer weather back in hawaii. it makes him homesick for a place he left behind to start anew, even if he’d been born in seoul long before ever putting down roots in lihue. however, even though he misses the island and misses the lazy summer days he’d spend by the water, there’s nowhere he’d rather be right at this very moment than right here on the han river, enjoying the sun and the water.
it probably helps that he’s lying on the bow of a small boat, staring up at the blue sky, mind empty as he ignores all of life’s responsibilities. it’s been about a month since his friend has been out of the country for some mission trip and asked wonpil to care for the watercraft while he was gone. he’d said to use it at least once during the three months he’d been away, and now that he’s finally taken it to the water, he wonders why he hadn’t done it earlier.
he sits up reluctantly and heads back toward the hull, waving to the handful of friends he’d invited along, and moves toward the cooler, grabbing himself a bottle of water. “how you feeling?” he asks soye as he takes a seat at the vacated driver’s seat. “not getting seasick or anything, are you? do you want a drink?”
times like these really brought her back to australia in her mind. seoul wasn’t known for beautiful beaches but the bit of water that it did had she had learned to come to appreciate because it would be all she could have without leaving the metropolitan area so when she sat beneath the sun and the water rocked the boat very faintly as they drifted along peacefully, soyeon was able to find a certain amount of bliss. if she laid back and stared straight into the hot summer sky, she could almost hear the crashing of the beach waves if she tried hard enough.
that was where she was now. stretched out just beside the hull on a beach chair with her shades lightly protecting her gaze from the sunlight but she allowed for the rays to wash over her bikini clad body. however she did have a bit of modesty, the strappy tangerine orange number overlaid with a white mesh swim dress. her dark hair was atop her head in a messy bun and her makeup -- unlike a few other girls -- had not melted away. it was an acquired talent, she’d say.
she heard the approaching footsteps and peered on curiously, a smile coming across her features as she looked up at wonpil, her head shaking at the question as she turned lightly in her chair, her arms resting on the back of the headrest to properly face him. “no, this is perfect. thanks for inviting me out.” she chimed gratefully, the shades lifted to greet him with warm light brown hues. she shifted to bring her knees beneath her, nodding at the offer. “yeah, can you pass me a wine cooler? a fruity one!”
