as important as it is to have fun in fandoms (and "have whimsy" as the kids say nowadays /hj), i think it is important to be serious about it. no one can have fun if people are running around causing trouble or being gross and everyone is staying silent for the sake of "peace". the truth is that fandom is not just your friend group, it's supposed to be a community of people with the same interests and that's how it's always been. whether it's about the media itself or the people consuming it, it's important to criticize it and those people.
you can't "fix" a fandom, but you can certainly speak on the problems that occur in between "having whimsy and talking about your faves kissing". don't be a person that turns away because of your belief that someone being serious about fandom is being a "buzzkill".
just because all fandoms have negativity in them doesn't mean they're above criticism and you don't have to right to stop someone from criticizing them simply because it impedes on your happiness.

You have to recognize your capacity for harm. You cannot omit the harm you've done to others to remain "good." Anybody can be a bigot. Anyone can be an abuser. Anyone can harm anyone at any time even those who have been harmed themselves. The world is not made up of victims and villains only, this is life, not a Saturday morning cartoon and you are a human being who can or maybe even has hurt others and you HAVE to acknowledge that to learn to be better.

Reminder that jkr basically funds a large portion of the terf movement in the UK and promoting harry potter and actively giving her money is helping fund that movement and is actively encouraging her and her followers because they see this as support
Stop adding in the tags for ways for people to engage in this content without giving her money when i explicitly stated that promoting harry potter also helps support this movement its really shitty to see people turn around and go “okay but you can still engage and promote this content but this way because were only helping it stay relevant and not giving her money”
Since I apparently wasn’t clear enough JKR will not be deplatformed as long as Harry Potter continues to remain relevant and people are still reblogging this with tags with ways to promote the series it’s really disheartening that a fucking book series is more important than the safety of trans people
JKR claims that the number of Harry Potter fans is proof of how many people support her transphobic views. Literally, any time you post HP content, JKR considers it a statement that you're "team terf." Do what you will with this information.

I really didn't think we'd get even close to $2k in a week and was just planning to quietly donate my $2k on Saturday but you guys did it in TWO DAYS!

I've also edited the original post so that people might see my matching goal was already met, but of course people can continue donating, this was just my own personal matching target.
It might even be better to just donate a small but regular amount, I've heard that that's much better for things like abortion funds or so on, where there's an ongoing need and they need more sustainable funding than just the amounts that come in fits and bursts based on headlines. But of course you have to balance that against the urgency... and there are so many people and groups in need. Well, y'all pick what works for you.
You know, I'm just really marveling at people's generosity. :') I've been feeling pretty down for a while and they say the way to counter that is by actually doing something productive. I was already going to donate but I talked this over with my friend, how maybe it'd flop and make me feel even worse, but then I was like, even a dollar extra donated would be worth it.
