this was shared with me on discord and it’s very relevant to everything

i sorta want to clear up what i believe is up with heidi in the last ep, because while it will becoming part of this blog’s canon, i want to make sure y’all understand my reasoning. especially due to the discourse over the episode.

i enjoyed the episode, not gonna lie. it got a lot of laughs out of me and the evil heidi route was how i wanted the series to take things. it works out logically speaking for a relationship such a eric and heidi, and i appreciate them making her into someone who even intimidates eric. i don’t believe it was over exaggerated one bit, and here’s why:

heidi is ANGRY. she is pissed off and has a RIGHT to be. starting at the very beginning of her character arc she has been BULLIED and RIDICULED. it starts with the trolling, and the second her mother is attacked she can’t bring herself to fight anymore. before eric, heidi is very PASSIVE. she doesn’t fight upfront and directly, instead sitting out the national anthem and joining her girl friends when trying to get cartman, who they thought was the troll, in trouble. heidi, at least to me, seems like someone who likes to avoid conflict as much as possible. then, eric comes in. what he does throughout season 20 is make her BELIEVE in herself. showering her with compliments and telling her “yes, you can” every step of the way. thanks to him, she realizes her potential. she’s SMART. really smart. and this is where she takes her first step against the trolls. she uses emoji analysis to figure out who people are online, and contacts and raises money for denver by HERSELF. yes, eric is there to support her, though she is making the charge. eric changed heidi’s mindset on how to tackle issues. now, throughout this she’s doing it for a good cause. she’s helping others and fighting for what she believes in at the same time, and most importantly she isn’t a dick about it.

now, we get into season 21 where eric goes through the relationship with as little effort as he possibly can, only being near her when he absolutely has to. this causes heidi to grow concerned, as this is not what HER eric is like. she’s the one to get upset at him for being passive aggressive and not talking about his feelings. this is the first time we see heidi reacting to problems with anger. as the show says, even after the trolling incident, heidi is STILL being bullied. by eric, and most notably her FRIENDS. they tease her and question her choices constantly all because of who she’s dating, and due to this to prove them wrong she doubles down. which means more time with eric to prove to them and more importantly HERSELF that he is a good guy. however, more time with eric means he’ll get sick of her quicker, and as we’ve heard he’s started openly acting out against her. when kyle asks what’s mildly appealing about him, heidi gets defensive and SHOUTS at kyle. which, is a surprising thing for her to do. even kyle seems shocked by her response. she’s been taking so much ridicule and just cannot take it anymore. by the end of that episode she is made to believe kyle is manipulating her, and leaves once again with eric. and that i believe is the last straw for her. heidi has SNAPPED. she’ll lash out at everything and everyone because she doesn’t want to be hurt anymore. if she’s a bitch, no one can attack her. even her own boyfriend is frightened by the new her and she’s finally SAFE. she confides in her anger and uses that to get what she wants. she no longer fights for others, because what have they done for her? HEIDI is her number one priority now, and she’ll fight anyone against her. because she DESERVES to get her way.

i’d love to take a moment of your time to talk about heidi’s thought process throughout her relationship with eric, from start to end. opinions expressed in this aren’t mine, but just what i believe is going through heidi’s mind.

- beginning: heidi is socially isolated, cut off from social media, and unable to get in touch with her friends. eric is the only one in the same situation as her, she knows how it feels, and thus reaches out to him. he gives her the support and words of motivation she needs to get her out of her depressive and lonely state in order to do something with herself. she does what she can to stop trolling and sees eric as her safe space, as she can tell him anything and eric seems to tell her everything as well.

- post s20: heidi notices eric beginning to shove her away and gets annoyed with her easily, so she does her best to appease him. though, she ends up frustrated with his actions which ends up in her acting somewhat aggressively towards him. at this point, heidi believes it’s her fault he’s acting this way. she must be doing something wrong and thus she must do what she can to fix it.

- doubling down: this is where blame starts being pushed towards eric, yes of course she still feels bad and partially blames herself for not being good enough. though, she recognizes his manipulative and harmful behavior towards him and this starts their breakup/makeup stages. eventually, kyle steps in and gives her the courage she needs to break out of it. she’s scared she can’t appease eric, and something potentially bad may happen as a result of breaking up with him. not to mention all the ridicule from her friends has been getting to her. kyle finds heidi in a similar place she was pre-eric, and helps her through it. here’s where eric comes in and tells her it isn’t her fault. she’s been putting so much stress on herself, and when she has someone to blame she feels if she can get rid of that person, take all the guilt off her, she may feel better. thus, she dumps kyle.

- post doubling down: now heidi has taken eric’s mentality to heart. her friends are ignoring her, talking behind her back, disapproving her relationship? well she hasn’t done anything wrong because SHE is the victim. thus, letting her rage out on others is justified. eric isn’t supporting her, asking her to calm down? well he’s the one who’s been harassing her. she’s being shot down yet again! she’s the victim. she can snap at him. this cycle continues and both eric and heidi believe they’re the victims. they blame their behavior on everyone else so they can take out all their aggression, sadness, and any other emotions they may be feeling out on others instead of walking through them and learning to cope. they become abusers because they believe they are justified enough from what they’ve been through to be able to act this way.

- splatty tomato: this is heidi’s wake up call. up until now, heidi honestly doesn’t believe she’s changed all too much. she believes the people around her have changed and are targeting her. when kyle mentions that he’d “never have the hots for who she is now” that’s a snap to reality. she thinks it over and realizes she’s changed, and tries to walk herself through it. when the kids go on their journey, they visit key places in her and eric’s relationship. i’ll analyze each of these individually:

- episode end: heidi pulls the gun on eric, having to take out her aggression on him. he took everything from her, she’s the victim, he’s abusive, she’s trapped in an abusive relationship. her boyfriend is making her crazy she doesn’t know what else to do— and then she realizes something. that sounds exactly like him. she remembers what kyle said about eric always finding some way to be the victim, and realizes that she’s been doing the same thing. she breaks up with him for good. not because it’s his fault, but because she allowed herself to be manipulated by him. it’s her fault she’s like this. she has control over her actions, that’s clear. she was avoiding the truth, but now she doesn’t want to anymore. she wants to be nice again. she wants to be healthy, caring, and all around a better person from what she’s made herself become. eric threatens to kill himself, and for once she’s not worried for him. because now she knows what it’s like to play victim. she knows he’s blaming her for all his issues, and she knows she’s not to blame for them. she’s to blame for her own actions and vise versa. and so she walks away. she’s not playing his game anymore.

it wasn’t often he gained such pleasure && enjoyment from having dinner with someones family , but he considered heidi someone special of course     always . he tried to remain a close friend to her , emotionally && physically . after a nice meal the boy expected to be home by 8 , but eating had finished before then , && heidis parents allowed him to stay longer .

of course the door had to be open , every parent asked that whenever two of the opposite sex were alone together , but kyle didn’t mind . there was a lot of calmness in the room      relaxation , openness. she was always so generous    letting him use her computer for the time being to browse , scrolling through funny videos && social media .

                              it’d  been  a  long  time  since  she  had  someone  of  the  other  gender  over ---   her  father  tended  to  be  fairly  overprotective  so  when  he  approved  of  kyle  it  brought  her  a  happiness  she  hadn’t  felt  in  a  while  .    he  was  always  a  good  friend  ---    one  she  sadly  took  for  granted ---   it  was  nice  to  be  in  his  company  .
