Arcade Child - Lesson 0: Throwdown Etiquette (Tutorial Battle)

The Tutorial Battle tune for A Just Endeavor has gone through a couple of revisions by now- for a while, an edit of my tune Funky Music to Rebel By was the most recent, but I was never very happy with that choice (in tone, in pace/speed, and in style, it's just a bit Too Much™ for an introductory battle meant to ease you in to how the game works). I proposed creating a new track about a week or so back, and labbed this out in the interim. It's drawing very heavily from Shawn Lee's work on Canis Canem Edit/Bully- particularly tracks like Defend Bucky- and actually makes use of a couple of drumloops from one of Lee's sample packs, Planet of the Breaks. I am much, much happier with this take- it's still got some energy, but its much more lighthearted and feelgood. Also quite pleased with the fact that it's fairly external sample reliant- there's more samples from MUSIC 2000 and MUSIC 2002 Club Edition in here then you might think, but a good portion of the tune is built off the back of external loops.

The title is a refence to the legendary "Lessons" series by Steinski and Double Dee, legendary mash up/samplephonics works that were highly influential and very forward thinking at the time they were produced. They're favourites of mine, and they also had a bit of an impact on this tune's development- largely by virtue of it being so intentionally and obviously built out of samples (particularly in the drums, where I deliberately mixed and matched breaks and fills from different sources).
