I'm surprised I haven't seen any info posts about it yet but please have your hearts out for the wildfires in Hawaii. Towns have been abruptly destroyed in fast-moving fires and resources/firefighting aid have been difficult to deliver due to hurricane winds. When I wrote this 6 people were confirmed dead and within a day that count has already climbed to 36 (Thurs, 8/10/23).

I haven't been able to find any places to lend support to except some sources saying that the Maui Mutual Aid Fund is responding (but that may be because it's too soon for groups to organize support funds since afaik these wildfires sprouted out of nowhere in the span of 2 days), so please keep an eye out and share if you know of places to lend support

Count has gone up to 80 confirmed deaths, still searching.

Please disregard reporting that puts tourism front and center of this story. Lahaina is so much more than a tourist attraction. It is so so culturally significant and historic and fucking important. The islands are more than a tourist attraction and the residents deserve to be seen as fucking people. Please.

UPDATE: removed Maui Mutual Aid Fund for now because upon further research using the charity checking sites provided by this gov site, it doesn’t appear in results unlike the others listed. so i advise caution for now if you decide to donate there! they may still be legitimate, but i want to exercise caution.

The husband was writing an article on classic video game records, was surprised to find out that holding the Tetris record is a bit of a big deal, and mentions how good his wife is at it.

The guy he’s talking to mentions that the record is 327, way lower than his wifes usual scores of 500-600.
