A little snippet from one of my pieces for Beauyasha Week this year!

"Yasha acquiesced, offering a simple nod. Beau’s hardened expression softened, and gently she took the aasimar by the hand to lead her away from the road. There was only one bedroll, since the pack with the other was stolen. Beau took it and laid it out on the soft grass, the trees of the forest’s edge towering above them. When it was set, Beau gently helped ease Yasha to the ground. Yasha cried out as the movement sent pain jolting through her once more.

“Hey, hey,” Beau soothed. A small hand stroked Yasha’s arm. The barbarian took deep breaths, focusing on the smaller woman’s touch. “I’ve got you, Yash. Do you want to eat?”"

BY Week 2024 Day 6: Candle (Teaser)

There are many customs that Yasha still doesn’t get.

This is just another one of them.

A finely-made cake, a glass of wine, and a candle inserted into the cake with its wick already lit.

”Um, Beau? What is this about?”

Her girlfriend just smiles as she takes a seat next to her.

”Do you know what today is, Yash?”

The angelkin shakes her head. “No.”

Beau takes out one of her many journals. This one in particular is designed rather differently, with a bunch of boxes penned and connected together.

And there is a circle drawn within one of them.

”Today is the 16th day of Sydenstar, babe.”

”Okay?”

The monk then smiles with glee.

”That’s the day we first met, one year ago.”

BY Week 2024 Day 6: Candle (Teaser)

BY Week 2024 Day 4: Rest (Teaser)

“Can’t sleep?”

Beau shakes her head. “No. I… It’s more like I don’t want to sleep.”

Gods, what a way to ruin things just as they’re putting a cap on their date night.

She feels Yasha hugging her from behind. “I know. I’ve had those nights, too. Far too often.”

”It’s not the same, Yasha. At least, I don’t think it is.”

Beau lets herself sink deeper into her partner’s embrace. “It’s just… What if when I wake up, I’m no longer myself? What if I suddenly wake up and now I’m being puppeted and—”

Her rambling is cut short as she feels a firm kiss at the base of her neck.

Right on top of where that new eye emerged.

“Worry about it tomorrow. I’ll be right here with you.”

BY Week 2024 Day 3: Adventure (Teaser)

It’s rather scary.

It’s just the two of them out here, searching for something that may not be there.

But the feeling of excitement tempers the fear.

After all, they’re together.

They’ve just crested to the top of the mountains, overseeing the vast expanse of Xhorhas before them.

This was once her home.

And somewhere out there is the tribe she once called family.

But that may as well have been an eternity ago.

She’s no longer the savage brute she once was.

She’s found purpose, and family.

She’s found happiness.

She’s found love all over again.

And said source of love is right by her side, equally in awe at the sight before her.

She agreed to join her in searching for Zuala’s resting place, knowing the risk and the danger.

Together, they had braved life and death, even the potential end of the world.

This is just one more adventure to add to the books.

BY Week 2024 Day 2: Pizza (Teaser)

The moment she enters the house, she just knows that something is off.

For one thing, there’s an extraordinary amount of flour coating the air.

It’s enough to cause Beau to go into a coughing fit. Enough to make her cover her mouth with her scarf.

Another thing that stands out is that it is unbearably hot in here.

And the source of the heat is unmistakable.

It’s coming from the kitchen.

Not long after, she can hear a litany of curses in both Celestial and Abyssal, a vulgar hymn of contradictory tones that would probably get someone kicked out of any temple within a five-mile radius.

Oh, dear. Yasha, what did you do?

Undaunted, Beau makes her way into the kitchen, also catching notice of a burnt scent.

“Babe, are you doing something in…”

As she turns the corner, her eyes go wide behind the goggles she’d slipped on.

Yasha Nydoorin, champion of the Stormlord and dedicated housewife to a high monk of the Cobalt Soul, is engaged in a battle against an unlikely opponent.

An opponent made of a mish-mash of ingredients that she is frantically trying to best before she burns the whole house down.

And what’s amazing is that through it all… it smells delicious, despite the burning.

BY Week 2024 Day 1: Stars (Teaser)

“Still looking up at the sky?”

Yasha doesn’t respond at first, her two-toned eyes transfixed on the surprisingly clear sight above her.

How long has it been?

“Um… hello? Exandria to Yash?”

She chuckles. “Sorry, baby. It’s just… it’s been a while since I’ve seen a sky this clear, especially at night.”

At the edge of her vision, she sees Beau walk up next to her and also look up.

“Yeah? And?”

Yasha sighs. “I haven’t seen stars so clearly in so long. Not since…”

She falters, hesitant to finish the thought. She knows full well when the last time was.

Thankfully, she doesn’t need to finish it. Her wife can tell as she takes her hand in her own and grips it tightly.
